my parents have the 2000 honda accord V6L. i checked redbook. fuel consumption rates are 8.5L/100kms for highway driver, and 11.5L/100kms for city driver. my parents consumption rate goes likethis

full tank = 62Litres - say 60Litre tank

usage is to drive little sister to skool and back, go grocery shoppin about 15minutes away. and thats about it.

their mileage is approx 380kms per tank (air con used aswell), and roughly 430kms without aircon. this works out to be 14.5-16.5 Litres per 100kms. what do you hondonians think of this ?

Heaps of start-stop driving will do that.

sum1 correct me if i'm wrong
but i'm pretty sure it means that there is more fuel in the fuel/air ratio than optimal.

Yeah. But unless he's got a dead bird blocking his air intake (not possible since it is probably with the stock airbox), it's not the cause of the high fuel consumption.

It's normal to have such high fuel consumption if the car is driven in stop-start conditions. More energy is required to move the car from standstill than to keep the car at a constant speed. Moreso with the 3.0V6 Accord, a heavy car has high inertia, thus also requiring more throttle to get it moving.

Also, the time that the car is driven is very short, 15 minutes. So when the car is started, the autochoke is engaged, more fuel is used so the revs are higher (to warm up the cat and the engine quicker). Once the engine is warm, the car gets driven just a little bit before it is stopped again. So the car spends a lot of time with the autochoke on, thus leading to high fuel consumption.

If I did start-stop driving with my manual Euro, I get about 12L/100km. With little start-stop, driving in the Eastern Suburbs area and across the bridge I get 9.8L/100km. On the highway (110km/h) I get 7.5L/100km.

Mine is at 2.4L, getting 12L/100km. Yours is a 3.0L, getting 14-16L/100km. That sounds about right for the situation & conditions that your car is driven in.

I do realise that short driving does put a drain on the fuel consumption, I drive like 5 mins to class to and fro and I use more fuel than when I used to drive to the city for classes...

Do u guys reckon that I should do my oil change more often for short driving?

I remember in the service schedule, it states that you should use the severe conditions schedule that if your trips are less than a certain amount of time. Check it out.

hum... are u sure each time u used all the fuel before a fillup?

normall the needle is pointing E when it's got 8 liters left ( i m speaking of 00 accord v6)

and if so that sound alrite to me

some how the accord v6 uses around the same amount of fuel as the 4 cyclinder one..

and mine is about 440 km per 52liter... ( always got some fuel left over between fill up)

You measured by doing the math from the litres filled divided by the distance on your tripmeter?
