The ek is written off...original headlights was replaced after first accident..no ek9 headlights available..its apparantly an ek9 with a ek1 front cut so it can get road registered..eithet way it had everything ek9 so im cheering..will start stripping it soon

oh fair enough thats still good considering an em1 front end is pretty much an ek9 minus headlights. But yeah keep us updated as much as possible I'd like to see final product!
How much did you get it for btw? And where at?

dorikin

it's an EK1 shell, but regardless it's got some nice goodies on it

BuiEG
01-09-2013, 09:36 PM
Meh i wasnt 100% sold on it being a genuine ek9 or not....front end have definitley been welded to the car though..dunno why anyone would bother.. and where the hell they get all the ek9 parts from but if its a replica..its a damn good one!

I was about to pm you asking if u wanted to sell the double set up. I'm surprised the car is still around. History for you. The owner which did the conversion bought in the whole ek9 shell as a wreck and transplanted every thing over this current ek, but I do recall the ek had a sun roof back than.

The only hard thing to do on the double din is finding the right thermostat sensor thats the only problem i had before with mine. Gud luck...

Is that the one that goes into the evaporator? The black box in the middle.

The thermo sensor is only for the auto mode right?

PHO
03-09-2013, 01:23 PM
Yeah. Only the jdmvtir has auto option. Which has outside temp sensor which mounts on the front reo bar. Cabin temp bottom left of steering column. And the uv ray sensor which sits at the bottom of the windscreen.

Em1 dash out...ek9 dash coming out hopefully tomorrow..... did you guys swap over the complete dashboardassembly or did yous keep your original dash and just swapped the double din unit and required parts?...i was thinking just leave the ek9 dash as is and slap it in the em1 and do any wirings if i have to

why would you keep original dash if you're converting to ek9 spec

ek9 dash and interior plastics are dark grey, em1 is a lighter shade of grey, it will look different

Eh? Im not keeping original dash..i was saying im gonna keep the ek9 dash as is once i pull it out i will put it in the em1 AS is..swap over heater core etc etc....anyways ...anyone know if ek9 and ek4 use the same rear bumper bar reinforcement?
Heres a link to a ek9 reo bar for the rear http://www.ek9.org/forum/general-chat/1204-ej6-ek4-ek9-ctr-conversion-guide-thread.html

Hmmm if the ek i have isnt a genuine ek9...they did a bloody good conversion..the rear end of the ek i got is the exact same as the one in the link i attatched http://www.ek9.org/forum/general-chat/1204-ej6-ek4-ek9-ctr-conversion-guide-thread.html

i guess in some way i'd like to believe that i got a geuine EK9 wreck LOOOL...but doubt it..story goes is that the guys from jdmyard bought the car as an ek9 but half cut a ek1 front end on it to get it registered it as a ek1...you can definitley tell its a chop and weld job in the front end LOL

EK9 should have a lower tie bar there

BuiEG

OK so EK9 dash was taken out here..man i tell ya these are the easiest dash removal ive ever had...and ive done alota dashes LOL...took me 2 hours to remove both dash from both cars

http://imageshack.com/a/img822/2521/o2zt.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/muo2ztj)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)
the only thing i was annoyed with is this shit wiring from some wanker that calls him self a "installer" http://imageshack.com/a/img401/3576/h9qe.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/b5h9qej)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)

Sent more time fixing up his mess then on the actual conversion -_- lame

Carpet was the 2nd thing i installed into the EM1..and at this stage..everything pretty much lines up and matches..
http://imageshack.com/a/img194/4020/szqt.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/5eszqtj)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)

BuiEG
16-09-2013, 06:27 PM
Ok by this stage i had the carpet and door trim in which pretty much fits perfect...the next stage was waaaaay easier then i thought...was told this conversion was gonna be a pain in the ass..but i tell ya..if you have all the correct parts and tools...everything is basically swap and change...plug and play...no biggie

Underneather the heater box...Em1 temp controller is manual and ek9 is motorised..this pic is from the EM1
http://imageshack.com/a/img266/5586/slox.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/7esloxj)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)

This is what EK9 looks like http://imageshack.com/a/img20/1153/7qta.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/0k7qtaj)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)

So basically you replicate how it was on the ek9 and put it into the Em1..all bolts up...what ever you see on the ek9 thats different to the EM1..Swap it over!! Incl climate control wiring harness

BuiEG
16-09-2013, 06:34 PM
After i swapped over all the climate control items...the pedals come next..probably easier to do while you got the dash out...

http://imageshack.com/a/img716/7013/be5r.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/jwbe5rj)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)
http://imageshack.com/a/img401/3576/h9qe.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/b5h9qej)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)

Behind all that wiring mess..you can actually see my ek9 pedals LOOOL

Finally the best part of the conversion is.....thats right..putting in the dash and realising everything works in one go
http://imageshack.com/a/img17/7825/bn8t.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/0hbn8tj)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)

BuiEG
16-09-2013, 06:38 PM
By now i started to put bits and pieces back together..and everything still lines up and fits 100% ..steering wheel fitted also..but im torn at the moment...Type R steering wheel is nice but so is the S2000....wtf to do...which one to use LOOL
http://imageshack.com/a/img43/2770/ukyd.jpg (http://imageshack.com/i/17ukydj)Uploaded with ImageShack.com (http://imageshack.com)

after most of the interior was put back in..i decided to slap on 1 recaro and take the car to vacuum the carpet...ill get recaros fully cleaned once conversion is done

Now that bits and pieces are done...im now deciding to 100% go with the B16B setup instead of the b18c...i figure...might aswell use all the ek9 parts..make it a more "genuine" conversion..

Started on pulling engine out

Check your rear demister still works, I've heard some ppl had to wire it in after the double din swap

PHO

I told you it was very easy mate :]
Literally plug and play. Just lots and lots of screws and bolts. LOL. Looks amazeballs :D I envy your carpet :[
I hope amant02 sees this. I wasn't lying mate, and doing the conversion myself, why would I lie about it?

Lol:

Its not all plug and play .... ofcourse OP would know that if he googled 'ek9 dash conversion si/em1'

PHO, did you do your own wiring for the climate control? I don't think so.

Mine worked, but for some reason whenever I press the rear dimister button, theres a loud click sound. Didn't happen before hand. Does this happen with you dori/buieg?

dorikin
16-09-2013, 10:49 PM
Haven't even installed mine yet lol
But I've compared the 2 wiring harnesses and there's a difference with the routing of the defogger wire

EK9 = climate control > heater sub loom > main wire harness > fusebox > defogger relay

EK1 = Demister switch > dash harness > fuse box > defogger relay

PHO
16-09-2013, 10:58 PM
LOL! Still too busy cleaning the heaterboxes? Haha.

Which one is the main wire harness?

dorikin

The fattest harness in the car

Runs along the firewall
