View Full Version : [CL9] Just bought one !!! and looking at a few mods
Hey guys i just got a 07 tourer with about 70k kms with the manual tranny. loving it so far and was looking at a few mods to do.. i really want to do the exhaust but i was looking at doing a varex xforce system.. has anyone done this on the cl9 and how much did it roughly cost ( im in sydney) ..
the other thing i was interested in was getting a mugen style front grill.. if anyone could advice me on this that would be awesome!!
and what are the other general tips if i want to do a few power mods(CAI and what not) in dire need of a bit of power cz im coming from owning a BF xr6 haha
cheers guys

After the XR6 I think you will love the refined quality of the Euro.

Not too experienced with the CL9, however I think a CAI won't change the power much unless you pair it with a new ECU and tune it.

Go to a DC5/euroR final drive (4.78:1). That'll speed things up.
the euro definitely has a very quality aspect to it and so far loving it.. does anyone know quotes for a CAI on this in sydney ?

has anyone done this? how is the cost vs effect balance in this

CAI, could get Injen/K&N from Amazon or traders here. Will be around $300 mark. Could also look at CompTech IceBox, not so much power, but it's quieter and more low down torque. Headers will also improve mid-high end power. OEM cat is 400 cell, you might want to consider changing that to a 100 cell, otherwise the exhaust system is fairly free flowing, even with the resonators. ECU for more power again, but really Force Induction is the only way to go to get any kind of serious improvements. UR Pulleys will also help, as well as lightened flywheel.
Force induction is out of the question as im in my green P's and will look at a lighter flywheel when time for a new clutch comes (still only done 70k kms) does anyone know how long honda clutches last i heard that they are a lot softer than toyota or fords. ill look at getting the cat changed when i go for the exhausts.

As it's a manual
And Honda's make their power up high
Keep the sucker up in the high rpms to feel the vtec
And it handles x10 better than any falcodore could

pretty much as above - the exhaust system is pretty darn good all the way to 200hp so i wouldnt bother with that
(bare in mind varex systems are now illegal ggrr)
Intake the choices would come down to Fujita CAI (top end) or Comptech Icebox (tonnes of torque)
the next point to address is the headers ... WeaponR, Toda, Comptech, etc
then you would look at either underdrive or lightened pulleys ... Unorthodox Racing or Ralco RZ
next up would be clutch and lightened flywheel and a good set of tires
from here things get a bit more expensive - the next move to make is getting an ECU
the best value for money unit available at the moment is getting the TSX ECU with Hondata Flashpro
it will allow you to lower vtec slightly and tune in your existing mods
once you have the ECU it opens up the ability to fettle a few hidden secrets of the ole euro
the first one being the intake cam - the american TSX intake cam was a LOT better than ours
making it a fairly cheap bolt out mod - but you do need ECU to tune it in
the next hidden gem is the VTC - the K24 can handle a VTC range of up to around 40deg
standard it is set at 25deg - so either you get a replacement thats set to 40...
or you buy an RSX/Dc5 50deg VTC then install pins to limit it to 35/40
at this point any additional power would have to come from turbo or supercharger
i would highly recommend getting a good rear swaybar as well - dramatically improves handling
good luck and have fun =)
really ??? since when are varex systems illegal ? or is it the cant pass 90dB rule ? cz im not looking to get a cannon sound or a stupidly loud sound anyway.. going for a low pitch classier noise.. i really liked the varex systems cz when the day comes where i want to re-sell the accord it wouldnt be a obstacle..
as for the intake im thinking about the comptech icebox, do you guys know any place in sydney where i can get it (and fitted) and how much that would cost.. ( really dont like buying car stuff off the net )
cheers saint that was really informative and yea ithink ill be getting the rear sway bars soon as well.
at this point my mods planned for this year are looking like this
1. a good 18" wheel set ( the stock ones are hideous) - anyone recommend 19" ? i go buy the rule of 2" max up from stock so havent looked at 19"
2. CAI
3. Front grill ( gonna try for something mugen looking)
4.exhaust

im running the Civic Fn2 Type-R 18" wheels on mine (my euro is almost identical to yours)
and they fit and look amazing
the varex system is illegal because its "a valve that can change the exhaust flow and sound"
which is stupid because some high end cars come with similar systems from standard
to be honest i wouldnt bother with the exhaust - the stock system flows and sounds perfect
i would be more worried about the headers - they are a big restriction
the intake makes a nice sound anyway - especially when you hit vtec =)
comptech icebox is great value for money mod - not sure if i would pay somebody to fit it though its pretty easy
you can buy the intake direct from CT-E ...

http://www.ct-engineering.com/portals/17/330-155t2.jpg
and the swaybar can be bought direct from ultra-racing MY or AU - this is also an easy mod to fit
(if you go above 20-22mm you will also need end links as the standard ones start to snap at this point)
http://ultraracingaustralia.com.au/index.php?route=product/category&path=68_96

i have dealt with both companies and purchased a few items here and there from them
both are very easy to deal with and posted out the products fairly quickly =)
another small mod i have is the Type-R style gear knob - fits well and blends in with the car and is miles better than the standard one

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3413/3518596156_2f220f0510.jpg?v=0
skunk2 also make one thats similar to the Type-R style - be careful not to buy the cheap fake ebay ones tho as they are complete crap

one thing i forgot to mention that you can do when you get to the more expensive mods
is the intake manifold - you can bolt on the Civic Fn2-R intake manifold (RRC) for a descent gain
again skunk2 make a nice unit as well - both can be pricey and they are a bit of a pain to fit
usually people put in the hondata intake manifold gasket and the USDM V6 throttle body to get the most out of this mod

cheers saint.. btw would you be able to post a pic of your car would love to see how the wheels sit on it. will be looking at the mid range mods a bit down the road as i need to save up..
also is there an update software that i can find for the navi ?
oh btw what is the cheapest way to get some decent bass in this? does anyone know how powerful the stock amp is ? (atm music sounds so flat even with bass on full )
ithink ill be doing the sway bars after the wheels and also have you done your grill?

the speakers on the rear doors
they're fake, theres no speakers in there

yah figured that out.. and i would need a 6channel amp to get some on there without sacrificing the parcel shelf speakers..
does anyone know whether ill be able to run a 4channel amp to front and parcel shelf and run the speakers in the backdoor with the stock headunit's

hey guys where is the best place to go in sydney to get the exhausts done!!. i called up performance exhaust in northmead and the guy told me doing custom exhaust for accord euro is too costly so they dont do them. and he pointed me towards jdmyard...
called up tuffy's in epping and they quoted me at $480.
can someone please shed some light on this
cheers

what do you actually want out of it?
just mufflers?
or what?

i was fishing for prices. i was thinking of getting a catback system well my goal is to get a nice deep tone that gives the car a decent character ( if that makes any sense). dont want it to be too loud on low rpms.

real thin line between deep and raspy
either way you're looking at a grand to a grand and a quarter for a decent system.

standard system from catback is good for up to 200hp ... why bother
i would be saving for intake and headers for actual gains

im not looking at a exhaust specifically for gains its more of making a nice sound. i would like the exhaust note to a be a bit deeper and a tiny bit noticeable but yea intake and headers will be down the line

in dire need of a bit of power cz im coming from owning a BF xr6 haha
I find that the CL9s tend to put the power down much better than the nuggety XR6s and SV6s? No hate on them - my friend has a tough SV6 black on black ute with an XForce catback and I love it. But I still beat him.

haha true.. the second gear pull on the CL9 is actually not bad!! was very impressed for a 2.4L n/a.. but power isnt my main concern at the moment cz im thinking about getting an old ae92 or something like that and building a sleeper as a project car..
i just want to do the things to the CL9 that makes it something memorable like wheels that like and a sound that i like if you guys know what i mean.
professional exhaust said it cost too much to do a custom exhaust and a JDM yard said fujitsbo is close to $1700.. so i have to reconsider this cz i cant afford to spend that much on a exhaust atm.
however tuffy's quoted me $500 over the phone. what do you guys think about this.. im really confused about it

ebay and heeltoeautomotive.com have been better options for me. That is about what youd pay for fujitsubo legalis r though.
There are second hand ones in the parts for sale section on ozhonda that go for around 1.3k I think? Just type it up in the search bar.
Have a look at the "post your euro" threads in the appearance/gallery forum as well, so you can see what looks good and what doesnt and whats already been done, if you want to make your CL9 memorable.

haha yea specially the blacktop 5 valves per cylinder madness. my plan is to try and get one of them or try and fit a rb25 in it but all this is hypothetical atm.. cz i dont to think too much about it till i save up enough for it.. but uni is in the way haha

the small port thats in the Gti is actually a stronger motor than the 5 valve - cam them up and convert to the blacktop ITB's and tweak the gearbox and you have yourself a fast little car
but the suspension/chassis still doesnt beat the EG civic layout/setup

well i doubt you will fit an RB into an AE92 ... they are a small front wheel drive hatchback lol
you can do anything with enough money - but i think you would be better off with the standard 4AGE, a 4AGZE or black/silver top swap
there are other engine options - 3SGE/3SGTE (engine that the calsonic supra runs), 2ZZ-GE (lift cams like vtec)....
