View Full Version : My Baby EG5 Civic

Current aim of this build: To restore the much needed 20+ year old hatchie. Install all the goodies that I have hoarded.

Aiming to transfer this red rocket into essentially an EG 'Type R' and beyond (basically all the goodies of a DC2R), cute little street-able 4 banger, setup to able to perform out-fkn-standing on the track and drag.

EG5 = Top of line AUDM's EG.

EG6 = Japan's top of line EG Civic, more like a 'type s'.

Honda Type R models are special performance editions of their respective model families.

The design of Type R models was originally focused on race conditions, with an emphasis on minimizing weight, and maximizing performance potential (e.g. engine tuning, suspension set-up). Thus, Type R models were first conceived for racetracks. However, due to Honda's increased focus on their highly regarded VTEC engines, Type R vehicles were eventually designed for a much wider market.

Hey Ozhonda guys and the few gurls,

this is my first introduction. My nickname is '3K9', or you peeps can call me 3K or KKK. I'm not racist, my initials just happens to be Kelvin K***** K***. I am Chinese, I was born in the year of the Dog, so that's where the 9 comes from. Also co-incidentally the pronunciation, K9. Might as well make my nickname somewhat meaningful. Hence, 3K9. Yo dawg, meaning within meaning within meaning, yo!

So about two years ago, I started looking for my first car. Working at HJ back then, in Year 11, my budget was only $3500 - $4K. I wanted a japanese car, and Hondas caught my interest. Was looking at EKs, but back two years ago, they were $4, 5K+, just out of my budget. So next was the EG Civic, looking at pictures, I instantly fell in love with them! Man, their curves are so sexy! ;) The price was right, I knew I had to own one, either the Si or the VTi model!

And so I found a red Si '93 model for the right price. I didn't even have my Ls back then (blame my Mum), had to ask my mates to come with me to pick up the car. From the Inner West area, we went all the way to Minto to view the car.
The car was at 20*,***kms, came with gunmetal Rota Grids, immoboliser, M3 Style side mirrors, fog lights, stock intake arm with a dirty pod filter, some sort of muffler, blown Sony rear speakers, no front speakers. TWO sets of coilovers; Buddyclub Racing Specs at the front, and Teins (dunno the model) at the back. Wth? O.o Is that Ok?
Passenger side window untinted while the rest of the windows are tinted! Yes, that leads to that the Civic was broken into. Found some shattered glass underneath the seat a few days later. There are random screwdriver marks here and there. Some interior pieces are missing. No service history at all.
The previous owner said he only had it for only a month. Never the less, I still bought the car. Left the Civic on the street and then at the Mechanics for 1year and 10months. I'm sorry Civic!

Pics from the previous owner. Sorry for such small pics. Can't find the larger ones.
Apparently the Civic was repainted. Cheap shit paint job I tell you. But the roof was faded a fair bit.

My first mod! Got a carbon fibre penis whale intake from PasswordJDM + velocity stack. Took exactly a week to arrive from the U.S. Love the low rumble.

http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac118/KKK999_KKK_3K9/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/Photo0072.jpg (http://s891.photobucket.com/user/KKK999_KKK_3K9/media/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/Photo0072.jpg.html)

Parked the Civic infront of my mates place. About 1.5 years ago, somebody reversed into my car. Dunno who did it. No note was left. Some hinges of the headlights and corner lights are broken, the bonnet was fked, and the right foglight cover. Cracked the paint in the front bumper. The corners are held on with cable ties. I got a carbon vinyl wrapped bonnet off a member here, who got it off another member on here.

Luckily, my mate's Dad was a panel beater for 15 years. I owe him big time.

I just rego'd my car last week. Had to changed to the stock airbox to pass blueslip.

Got a set of stockies from the wreckers because the rubber on the Rotas are so worn out. Paid $120.
I am surprised how well the Civic is handling on stockies, lowered on coilovers. If I push it hard around corners, the front end wobbles. Can't wait for more handling mods!
The alignment was out a bit to the left, maybe because the left tyre is more worn than the right. I set the left tyre's psi to +1 higher than the right's, fixed! Drives straight! ;D When I take medium-hard right turns, there's this light grinding noise coming from the front. What could it be, The CV joint, bearings?

http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac118/KKK999_KKK_3K9/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/DSC_0283.jpg (http://s891.photobucket.com/user/KKK999_KKK_3K9/media/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/DSC_0283.jpg.html)

Washed and waxed.

The exhaust tone is quite nice. It's only loud when you put your foot down.

Cracked and chipped paint, broken foglight cover, and black paint on the grill is peeling off. Probably will get a new set of foglight covers, repaint the grill properly black.

http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac118/KKK999_KKK_3K9/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/DSC_0301.jpg (http://s891.photobucket.com/user/KKK999_KKK_3K9/media/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/DSC_0301.jpg.html)

All dried up. How do I repair, replace it?

Apparently the car was keyed on the front left fender when the previous owner had it. It has rusted

A large mark in the middle of the bonnet. Dunno how that happened.

Things to do soon list:

- DIY Major Service
- Sand down and respray all wipers.
- Clean engine bay.
- Repaint front grill BLACK.
- Add a pipe from the behind the right foglight which will lead to the hole up the airbox/intake.
- Relocate the immboliser. It's in the stock airbox's way.
- Cannot open/close passenger side window from passenger's switch. Need to somehow fix that.
- Passenger side window is operating slowly. I'll fix that.
- Side power mirrors aren't working. Will need to figure out how to fix it.
- New set of front and rear speakers. Going with Pioneers. No sub or amp. I don't want that extra weight.
- Re-tint the car.
- Completely replace all bushings with Hardrace ones.
- Front Spoon lip.
- Put the Rotas back on with a new set of rubber.
- Respray calipers red, because +25kws, MCM style!

Things to do later list:

- Weight reduction.
- Handling mods.
- LSD
- Lower transmission gear ratio.
- Headers
- Maybe recondition engine, build with aftermarket parts. Wanna build a 13 sec NA Honda D series yo!
- JDM Exhaust system
- Hondata tuning.

Driving home from work. The Police was setting up the RBT on Victoria Rd Ryde tonight, just outside the Police Station, I wanted to turn left but it was blocked, stopped behind a Police car that was blocking the street that I wanted to turn into, as I turned to the right lane, this Toyota Camry came pass, my right fender hit the Camry's front left tyre. The Camry's tyre blew and the steelie was dented. My cable tied corner light became loose, and fender bent. Luckily there was just minor damage too the both of us. Need to get a wheel with decent tread for the Camry. Koreans, they are so kind and forgiving.

:(

If anyone has a good condition red right fender, please tell me!

Yea, it's like a hammer. Slide that thing with the handle and bang it against the piece of block on the rod.

My Indian retired neighbour, he decided to help me fix the damage that was done last night. Managed to bend parts of the fender back to shape, and used a rubber band to secure the corner light in place.

Any tips on popping out the dent on top of the wheel arch?

Cracked Roof mouldings...... I buy parts from hondapartsonline.net Spent $900 on windscreen surrounds, inside and outside weather strips for doors, a very useful cup holder, several information decals, and several other spare parts that have faded over time.

But they won't deliver roof mouldings because they are too long for USPS and FedEx was hundreds. Honda Australia will want a bomb! I bought a sunroof panel for the CRX a couple of months ago. It was $330 landed, plus $160 for my local guy to paint, total $490. Honda Australia wanted $800 for the panel alone.

Remove the roof mouldings by sliding forward. Tricky buggers to get back on. I use a butter knife with a right angle about 1CM from end, works a treat.

I removed my mouldings, sanded back until smooth, and PlastiDipped them with 7 coats of (matte) black (all Plastidip is matte), they look 9/10.

About to Plastidip my 16" JDM ITR wheels white, we will see how that goes! If I don't like it I can peel it off....

Thanks corsa59. Yea, many other mouldings on my Civic are showing it's age.
When you sand back the roof mouldings, do you just use sandpaper? Got any tips for me?

Can sum-boddeee please recommend me where to get all the parts for the major service, like the timing belt, seals, fuel filter, etc and what brands to use, OEM or aftermarket?! I am looking to tune my civic to a competitive level with the stock D16 engine while I am on my Ps, eg, to a stock-ish DC2R, DC5R level. So with the parts for the major service, or any other parts you guys recommend me to change, I'd rather spend a bit more money on good quality aftermarket parts than OEM ones, for the parts that are applicable, upgradable from OEM. I know Honda OEM is good stuff, but stuff like Hardrace bushings seems to be definitely worth it.

corsa59

Yes, sandpaper is the way to go.

It is impossible to get it completely smooth, and if you try, you will lose the shape of the moulding.

So I used a fairly rough sandpaper (120) very lightly just to knock off all the loose pieces, to give me a solid surface. Then I applied a few layers of Plastidip. It tends to fill in all the holes and cracks. The sand again, this time with 400. A few more coats, another sand with 800, and then 2 final coats. Leave unsanded.

You can if you want, finish off with 3 - 5 layers of Glossifier to get a shiny look, not for me, I like the matte look.

Thanks again.^

Car is consuming x1.5-2 times more fuel than it should be, or the fuel gauge is off. I just filled up 20 litres when the needle was a bit above E, the period when the low fuel light goes on and off. After fueled up, the needle is just under the 3/4 mark. What. Or, the tank is dented?

Hmmm......

Also, when I am driving in 1st gear, and if I release some of or all the throttle, the car jerks. What are the possible symptoms, or is it normal? Other than that, the car is running good, no CEL.
Also about the 1st gear, when I shift down to 1st from 2nd, I have to use more pressure to engage. Reasons? Maybe not enough transmission fluid, as shifting to all gears is not as smooth as what I reckon it could be.

Update. Barely done anything. On a tight schedule. Over a month ago, I put back my set of Rota Grids on wrapped with new Kumho KU31 tyres. (Grey imports)
Haz been hunting and admiring the variety of aftermarket parts...
Hunting for a decent set of tools, with a $1K-$2 budget in mind.

DAT shiny ass! :D

Had to take a shot. There was a Jazz at the tyre shop with genuine TE37s.

http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac118/KKK999_KKK_3K9/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/DSC_03261.jpg (http://s891.photobucket.com/user/KKK999_KKK_3K9/media/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/DSC_03261.jpg.html)

Real and fake TE37s, yay!

Tightened up the throttle cable a bit. Less accelerator pedal play now. I actually messed it up, over tightened! Do NOT over tighten!

After work, found out that the car won't start, found out that the brake light switch grommet broke into pieces, and was draining the battery.

http://i891.photobucket.com/albums/ac118/KKK999_KKK_3K9/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/DSC_03741.jpg (http://s891.photobucket.com/user/KKK999_KKK_3K9/media/My%20Honda%20EG%20Civic/DSC_03741.jpg.html)

Well, here's my short DIY;

How to DIY Brake light switch, DIY style.

You'll need:

- A pair of scissors
- Your chose of material
- A wrench, or a spanner (Dunno what size)
- Super glue

Time required: 5 minutes.

I just cut up some small pieces of cloth material, I stacked up 3 or 4 pieces together, until the button on the switch is fully pressed. Glue them up with superglue. Apply super glue on one side of the stacked material, then quickly stick it to the end of the brake pedal arm.

Now turn the engine on if it isn't on already, slow apply the brakes, the point where the brakes are engaged, the rear taillights should come on. Best to do it with the end of the car to the wall, or just take of your interior covers for the taillights. Loosen the nut and adjust if necessary.
I will eventually get a replacement grommet.

a wing?

Yea, but which one?

Bad news.

I definitely know that I blew my head gasket yesterday. The engine has been almost unable to turnover during this week or two. So yesterday, I drove for 25 minutes, parked the car, tried to start it up again to move it a bit foward, tried many times, wouldn't start. I came back in like 30 minutes or so, and it still wouldn't start, so I clutch kicked and it started. From then on, the idle was low, around 500rpm, engine lost power and the exhaust made this boiling-water like noise with quite a-lot of white smoke.
Had to drive like this back home. I am not driving my Civic for a while...

No service history. Now at 207,000kms. Even though if this problem is as simple as changing the head gasket, I would like to do a rebuild, a Super D build.

Currently on my red Ps. Not K20/K24 build just yet as I still have a fair way to go till my Fulls. So the question is...

D16a8/ZC Super D build

or

B18c7 swap.

???

some luck you've had with this car!!

i'd say find something decent and use it as a daily, then go for the big build once you're a bit 1) older and 2) richer

or, if you're already ballin, get an engine build started now, source bits, rebuild/recondition thewhole thing before swapping it in a couple of years time

I ain't telling you!
I can live without a car. There's public transport.

Willing spend $4-5K including Hondata and tuning. Will DIY most of the work with mates, the rest to the machinists.
Wait, just did a quick search, I think swapping to B18c7 only cost like 5 grand for all the parts?

I deserve it. I left the Civic sitting on the street for around 1 an 3/4 years. But I was just about to do a major service on it...

Curtis, ultimately, of course I want to go K series.

What I would like now on my Ps is to build my version of the 'Super D'. It is inevitable now with burning oil and blown gasket, I need a rebuild.

D-series are awesome engines. Problem is fanboys comparing them to B's, H's and K's. Most D-series will set you back $50-200 - different kettle of fish.

Most other car manufacturers either won't or can't build a 1.6L engine that makes 96kw and 140~nm.

For what they are they're pretty fun :D

Vvvtec
14-12-2013, 09:12 PM
Who on earth actually compares them to B, H and K's? The closest thing they come to is a b16 on a cold morning without enough oil temp and pressure to activate vtec.

They're good for what they are, but they're weak as all hell and I don't get why people cling onto them. The Op has an opportunity to upgrade and has already given a rough budget to go by. It would be silly to not take the chance to put a BETTER motor in the car.

Am I just a fan boy? :(

H22 isn't necessarily an easy swap nor popular.

B18C7 I think you will struggle to get into the car with $4-5,000 as your budget, especially if you want a Hondata + tune (alone will cost you $1,100-1,300). So ideally you're left with a budget of like $3-4,000 max for the swap.

K-series well beyond that budget.

IMO either a turbo D (but you're a p-plater, or a B16A/B18C2 with no Hondata (not really necessary anyway) is the best bet.

This is what I would like my Civic to be like, but even better. A ITR, S2000, and even a R35 Killer! And it's just lightly modded!

Lightly modded d series. Highly skilled driver.

Having a good setup thats fast is one thing. Being able to drive it fast is another.

Fuukk^^ that can't be lightly modded..

According to these two other videos of the dude in the JDM EF3:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_aah7OBU-Z4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1oPB-LN4W4

The mods are:

ZC engine stock

Mugen header
Home made exhaust
AEM intake
Mugen LSD
4 strut braces
Rollcage
A050 Advan tyres
HKS in/ex camshaft
P&P head
44mm carbs
Mugen stabilizer
Front mugen shocks
Rear coilovers Technica.
Clutch stage 2
Lighten flywheel

Sorry, I forgot to type lightly - mildly yesterday. Mildly tuned it is then? Some rare Mugen parts are on the car! :O
Interesting suspension setup.

Just reminding you guys that eventually I wanna go K series, cos I am the KKK

Yea, maximum 1.8L from a 1.6L on Ps.

The father of B, H, F, and K series (any other Honda series?), the D deserves more respect yo!

dougie, I was referring to the ZC rebuild build.

I would rather be more unique, and go crazy on the ZC build, rather than the usual P-plater B series swap.
If I go B18c7, I would be irresistibly tempted to mod the hell out of it as well, which would require moarrr monies.

Well said PHO! ;)

I would rather start off having a less powerful engine, develop and rely 100% on my driving skills, then take it to the next level! :)

Have a good look around the mating surfaces for oil leaks. Common ones are VTEC solenoid seal, cam seal, head gasket (all those three are around/below the dizzy), sump seal etc. Get a compression test done to see if the engine is holding good comp. Make sure the oil looks clean, no milky colour or too dark, ensure the engine isn't blowing any suspect smoke under load (white [water] and blue [oil], sometimes black [running rich]).

Check the GBox by driving the car. Check for synchromesh crunching at high RPM. 2nd and 3rd gear often go first. Reverse is often crunchy because it's a weak gear and it has no synchromech. Check for bearing noises (whirring etc). Check that the clutch is nice and firm and engaging/disengaging well.

Also ask when the pump/belts were all changed (good to do these while the engine is out anyway).

^ Thanks mang!

I went to see it this week.

Visually, the engine looks good. Didn't get a comp. test though. Engine pulls strong and Vtec engages. The clutch is really nice and hard, heavy duty stage 3 clutch.

But the gearbox is a bit stiff. Is this because of the hard clutch? And I shifted from 2nd to 1st when it was rolling to a stop. It made a grinding noise. It's not meant to happen right? I was pretty sure I had put the clutch to the floor. Also when I downshifted from 4th to 3rd, it crunched a bit.

Yeah going in depth with it thats it.. but in short form its as simple as a DC2's gearbox (especially B18CR) feels and is a lot stiffer than a D series EG's gearbox..

Btw, I am gonna be doing a '98+ spec JDM B18C Type R engine and box conversion. Just waiting for the seller to get his K swap ready.

I just realised that the '98+ spec JDM DC2R's drive shaft/hub size is 36mm. (while AUDM and '96 spec JDM are 32mm)
Cbf looking for 32mm axle outers, or crv hubs, since I need to replace the current brake pads and maybe rotors anyway, so
I might as well upgrade to JDM '98+ brake/5 stud conversion, and of course the brake booster/ master cylinder. Am I missing anything else regarding dc2r brake conversion?

Also, would the stock Eg exhaust bolt up to the JDM B18C header with a 2.5" collector? (Just temporarily)

The thing is, I thought this engine came with the stock P73-013 ecu. I didn't know that you need other ecus like the P28 to use Hondata. Yes, the seller ran Hondata S300. I decided not to buy from him. He already sold the Hondata. Silly me. Now I have a P28 ecu without Hondata. I need to find a ECU for my motor. Can I use AUDM DC2R's ecu? I want to eventually run S300, when I get all the mods that I want to be done. To save some money, yea.

I did this swap a few weeks back dude. Would have to buy an obd1-2 harness from jdmyard, or do like I did and make one yourself (taking a big risk tho). The exhaust from the d series won't fit a b series from memory. And finally mine wouldn't start, then found out as mentioned you have to remove the immobiliser, which can be searched here on the forums (takes 10 mins to remove)

Managed to jump start the car, driving back 900m home, with loss of power due to blow headgasket. Exhaust making bubbly noise. Didn't have to pay towing!

Back home.

Went to JDMyard today.

Dropped off my DC2R 5 stud, minus front camber arms and upper lca (compliance bushings), to get the bushings changed, with Hardrace bushings that I bought ages ago. Might as well since they are out.
Was told to replace rear disks, cos they are rusted as f***, so I ordered a replacement. Holding off the fronts atm, they look OK to me.

Mocchi (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/member.php?11984-mocchi) has asked for an update.
Nothing much, I've got uni 5 days a week. Two days ago, picked up my DC2R sussy assembly from JDMyard + new pair of rear RDA rotors.

The boys at JDMyard did all sussy bushings, except front camber arms since I haz recently acquired Hardrace v2 camber kit, they did the rear camber arms (dunno why), and except compliance bushings, which I can do myself. Just a couple bolts and the 2 nuts, yea? DIY yo!

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-UFqQJberWkY/VRFaR9rgziI/AAAAAAAAAY8/wH6T07m-TTw/w1026-h577-no/DSC_0265.JPG

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-drZQkXPZiFY/VRP02ahpvHI/AAAAAAAAAYg/F-hXpnDe2W4/w1026-h577-no/DSC_0266.JPG

CBF taking moar pics, new rubber looks like new rubber. Meh.
Thanks JDMyard! Supporting local business.

Here's the NEW Hardrace front engine mount bushings (which I got awhile ago) compared to ones off the B18CR which done approx. ~90,000km, if the kid who sold me the engine is telling the truth. Ignore the disfigured bushing, I did that. :p
The mechanics at JDMyard are pro, undid the nuts within an instant, which I had trouble undoing.

https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8iLgN46L9Oc/VRFaa1fXwNI/AAAAAAAAAYU/dVYNzQEUPUE/w1026-h577-no/DSC_0263.JPG

Notice the different designs of the bushings.

What's next?
- Go to wreckers and source an OEM front bumper, and DC2R 22mm rear swaybar.
- Get some tyres changed.
- Go to Supercheap Auto for a new battery, and stuff.
- Acquire Timing kit and obd1 to d2 harness from a fellow Ozhondie.
- ....

Recently got myself a Jazz Vti-s MT. I <3 Honda.

Got these months ago from the dude posted above^. Came from his previous EG.
And they have lumbar hand-pump for lower back support. WTF, FTW, haha!

Driver's side bolster is f***ed. I'll order a new bolster foam and padding and then follow up a DIY instruction on some forum.

So my 'Type R' interior shall be:

- SR4 Recaros, with DC2R rails.
- Rear DC2R Recaros
- Rear DC2R boot carpet (Attached to rear seats, dunno if it'll fit. Yet to try. I reckon it's likely for a nice fit since EG/DC share the same chassis.)
- DC2R gear knob
- DC2R shift boot cover
- DC2R steering wheel
- DC2R floor mats
- And DC2R space saver, if you count that!
- Genuine Mugen pedals.
(All acquired)

- Getting DC2R carpet by this week, and some other DC2R part.

That mainly concludes my interior.
CEEBS a DC2R dash.
I'm considering an EG6 centre console, since the lack of small storage compartments.

I recently purchased a large whiteboard for the garage, because project planning.
Ordered off Ebay, single din pocket storage thingy on its way. Yes, speakers are/were out! What's a better sound system that a B18CR weeteec?

What I did today (yesterday).

- Removed alot of driver's door sound deadening tar off, with a paint scraper, then degreaser to finish. (Previous or previous previous.. owner removed the other side's deadening completely, but not the driver's side. I know, my car's dodgey as fk, but wait till I mention about the wiring...

- (I got another spare interior set last year, alot cleaner, better condition that my existing interior)

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/FDwNnT77kGB2heckzWCDR0aENLnxH-v6EppjtFOnhxY=w1108-h623-no

Top: Is my Si trim.
Bottom: From memory, I think it's from a '94/'95 Gli.

Dat darker trim matches up to my Type R interior. :D

Antenna delete, because future racecar, weight reduction!

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/weAHxFvmAlpQALwkqrSXSMjrbxYenedye1_fk_S71Rg=w1108-h623-no

Acquired OEM block-off plate off Ebay dunno when. (BTW, make sure you order a RHD one, if you do. You may want to order a new rubber seal as well.)

That front screw doesn't screw in as deep as the other, so the fitment isn't tight as the front end. Dunno if a thin piece of rubber will hold off the rain? Should I apply some (what) kinda sealant? The A pillar leads down to the wiring beneath the dash.

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/eYTbP6dUFX7K_SSVVcN1zq8jAhH0GBJnf23FnjwHEJs=w351-h623-no

Ordered a kitchen scale. Will see how much I've removed.

Couldn't get any of these joints including the upper one to come off (except for one side of the steering rack). Soaked in WD40, hit them hard as fk like a firetruck's cannon, to no avail. Ended up turning and pulling the wheel assembly and just got enough clearance for the driveshafts to slip out of the hubs.
Any tips, Ozhondies? Heatgun, blow torch? What should I do?

Here are da mods that I have hoarded, well most of them. Experienced Honda nuts, please review my list and feel free to make any comments/suggestions/mod recommendations. Of course, I will be getting moarr parts. These parts will get me going, into essentially an EG Type R and beyond (basically all the goodies of a DC2R), cute little street-able 4 banger, setup to able to perform out-fkn-standing on the track.

I may have mentioned that I am building a quality EG Civic with mainly JDM parts (Jdm yo), and quality USDM parts. I DO NOT want to use any cheap, fake parts. (except for my front lip and single din pocket, and the PLM products). I will be going ALL OUT on this EG, the love my life, with no expense spared (within reasonability and functionability compared to cost, ie, 2 core instead of 3 core radiator, and cheap rear blank discs instead of DBA T3s which are about x4 more costly).

You need dedicated tools or you need to exert upward force on the knuckle and downward force onto the lca.

You can exert upward force to the knuckle by propping it up with a Jack.
Once a substantial amount of force is applied, swear at it and threaten to burn it if it doesn't come off. Then you hit it as hard as you can with the biggest hammer you can find. (Bigger = more force)

If all else fails. Cbauto does home visits.

Just go out and buy a balljoint remover. Repco or sca has it about $20-40. Will make that balljoint pop out very easily. As mentioned you could hammer the shit out of it like literally but you need alot of room space. Buy the ball joint popper.

In the process of stripping the engine bcuz cuz, it's a definite YES to engine bay respray, estimate it'll cost around 500 dolla to be done professionally. I haz made up my mind. I want this car be looking brand-spankingly meticulously as close to new, clean as fk, as expressed in this meme.

Before respraying the bay, I'll ask my repair shop to fully fix up the front radiator support, out of shape and needs a few spot welds.

It took a few minutes of archaeology-ing with my flat-head screwdriver to to remove the crap to uncover the three bolts.

=/ As suspected, the bolt's head have gone with the flow of corrioding. They all have lost their shape, how to heck am I gonna remove it? They were 12mm bolts. Tried 12mm, nup. Then 11mm, it slips. 10mm, too small.

Any suggestions Ozhondies?

So, I am gonna aim to finish stripping the bay in 2 days time. 2 dayz? Because I am a noOb.
The front end is completed stripped. Lights, radiator, condenser, lines, horn, ground wires, power steering reservoir, receiver/dryer, washer fluid tank, bonnet latch and so on, are off. Also undone some stuff here and there.
I need to remove the rusted as fk metal battery tray to remove AC lines, PS hose, and wiring.
Couldn't undo one of the lines from the BMC with a regular open end wrench. Looks like I'll need to invest in flare nut wrenches.

Yo.

i have a jazz daily as well, nice

if you delete the heater core and blower fan under the dash, make sure you plug up the holes, other wise kunt tonnes of hot air will constantly be flooding into the cabin, almost like you have the heater on full blast 24/7

Stripped! (Minus two rubber plugs)

Do I need to remove steering rack too? But need steering at the repair though I reckon.

The pin of the brake and especially the clutch pedal was a b!tch to remove. Took too long!
All I had left these past few days were the wiring looms and the AC hose to remove.
Figured out how to pull the wiring loom into the firewall.
Just managed to pull the passenger side loom and AC hose through the gap under the tray. Was tight.
Had to remove Airbox cabin box for passenger side to remove the loom.

OMFG, it looks soo farr king good in the sun, the paint hasn't even been buffed/polished yet!

Things to fix from respray:
- Door handles
- Side mirrors –,left mirror left corner touch up, right side in front of mirror touch up
- Passenger door sider moulding edge
- Dot of paint at left handle side taillight
- Fix rear license plate light lense, was too resprayed red
- Fix front end damage, straighten up and weld up radiator support, and additional spot welds if necessary.
- Bumps on left side, side skirt
- Fix both front inner edge of fenders, straighten them.
- Crack developed infront left rear wheel, and corner of both doors.

Other things that I would like to done:
- Respray front radiator support and engine bay – Honda red R81. – Shave small mount on right shock tower, - weld up 4 screw holes in firewall. Respray bay from outside edge.
- Respray inside area of doors – Red R81
- Cut off rusted battery tray
- Make the seams in engine bay seamless, smooth with flexible filler?
- Respray whole rear hatch area. Initially I asked to just respray the outside, however from the respray, some paint has leaked through and got mixed with dirt
- Adding to above, respray underside of rear spoiler (and touch up marks)
- Fix both front door’s edge and when they meet
- Respray my original front bumper bar - Red R81. (sitting in your storage area) Grille: Matt/non gloss black.
- Respray inner fuel door area
- Respray both side skirts to matt/non gloss black.
- Respray front lip to matt/non gloss black.
- Seal rear boot crack.

Getting an OEM front bar resprayed as I don't like the fitment of the aftermarket. Getting my front lip and side skirts resprayed from shiny black to, matt/non-gloss black, changed of mind. The main feature is the sxc red paint, not shiny black.

Yes, we should of sprayed inside (inner doors, bay, hatch area) first, then outside. However, I have more funds working part-time at the 'Fresh Food People' now than last year.

Wow much monies spent. Such JDM. Took advantage of the 8% off Defi products rhdjapan had campaigned. I <3 rhdjapan (http://www.rhdjapan.com/). Prices are most of the time the cheapest, customer service is top quality, and is website layout is nice and easy to use. (although the search function is a bit slow.) ..along with stickers and shirt + shipping = US$7** = AU$10**. =S

Don't be put off with the word 'Budget'. At US$S450 for the harness, it ain't no budget to me! The harness is really well made. It seems Rywire has clearly intended to differentiate the standard 'budget' harness, to their flagship Mil-spec harness.

So I'll visit the repair shop in the next few days and see how they are doing.

Pretty much have everything for the Civic, except need a custom fuel line [(inlet) from fuel rail to bottom area of engine bay, make it look nice] along with inline fuel filter, a battery, OEM goodies to restore back to showroom condition, and other bits and bobs. I have probably have forgotten something.

Talking about OEM goodies, I am currently compiling a list of OEM parts to get, and unfortunately, Honda has started to discontinue parts for the EG. As one of the most iconic Honda fanboy car, how can they discontinue... For example, rear tailight seals. :(

Done two weeks ago:

Inner door area, inner fuel door and inner hatch area was resprayed. Both doors, fenders (They previously did a crap job of the edges) and the entire rear quarter area was resprayed again, to have the paint looking flawless, instead of a line of difference if they had masked it. So basically the Eggy got another repspray again, minus bonnet, roof and rear hatch and bumper. I didn't ask for it.

Apparently getting rid of of the seams took quite alot of work. Yea, I want them more seamless. The seams on the EG look ugly. EKs are significantly more seamless.

I did more scrubbing after this pic was taken. Too much dirt accumulated, especially driver's side.

- Didn't take any pics, but also washed all the seat belts with hot soapy car wash soap, left them in the buckets for a while, then submerged them in hot water buckets for rinsing. Using clamps to stop the retractors from reeling in the belts. I repeated the progress the day after except with dishwash soap this time. All the belts seem to retract slighty faster, except for one, which got worse (-.- - rectractor accidently fell into the bucket of water). Was recommended to use silicone spray into the retractor. I shall try.

As you can see, the clutch master cylinder failed, and the brake fluid ate the paint and became rusty. Sanded off what I could, then WD40'ed the area as a form of rust prevention.

Jan 2nd - Brake discs replacement

So when I brought my DC2R 5 stud to JDMyard for them to replace all them bushings to Hardrace ones, Yonas highly recommended me to replace the discs as well due to the condition of them...

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/yEGRWWlT2iPHy4giy-JFZ5LXhzymurQxgkHnb1JSKbyKoLgAWNw_28ityhac6zMl0knM TGSx44Qs4U6hBQDKlmUiz9U62g-8XlrjlAW3Pxp_wtj5VeOpPOxFXFcVQd6KFTmNLZ47YW_FweSBX 8fLryOPhkM_F1UNPvpm6Mwe6ZQbeI2GHhLEELTM84FNew9AXeU pEsY0oytLkBNZilwlUK16bDPw9ShQL1BtB7WaaHdbwJWiURYX4 QXxgEoxHFhKMjEcqS1hhHZ0ZBC3ev3KVKnP1OrRS72C54Vul_Q HiuBdBa-StOn_HPf0UySu6F1-lPLM8zBvExufic3JfOWBuz9635G82_TMc-my8dWk49njYPGDJIz5lmKJHUE64GeeuY23KCZBM-IuiVdlNPzUNPcxaDK4GoNsB8tpZoZPbVHNiMhvfvusDcIMUZRP 84Ax6sXBqeViZC8kZ7Yh8_4X8-TAxkYtVLnu8E89LcBYMp89nLZt-IcV8qOC0BSogaIkFc6yDCj6TJjyh3_tBcRdpx4bEZ7SXyK47F3 WmHNmXCO6uvpPiOlwLxMchzBTYSoCue2U9UUwyiiCp8i_Erp6u C_Ge7EK0KInnKwgY5hBOe-zrDFLnEkb=w681-h907-no

... so I decided with a decent setup consisting of DBA 4000 series T3 fronts and RDA rear blanks:

Sorry OCD peeps, yes front and rear discs are different colours. I don't really mind though.

So the cover bolster replacement for from Capital Seating in the UK for driver's side Recaro seat came up really tight, 2cm shorter compared to the original bolster. I fitted them onto the seat, but it is waaayyyy too tight.
Top new bolster foam and bolster cover.
Bottom is original.
In contact with them now regarding this issue atm.

Off comes steering rack, DC2R upgrade instead. EG 3.4 vs DC2R 2.9 turns lock-to-lock. 'F1 inspired steering' is what a review described DC2R's steering. (Will try to find the review.)

Derp, I didn't know that the EG's spindle coupling (sits in between the steering rack and the steering column) is different to the DC2/4's. In search of DC's wrecking...

So the EG's service manual instructs to align the anchor bolts, but didn't specify how... so I just copied the stock camber arm, parallel with the ball joint. With a ruler, looking with left eye, then right eye and then both, ensuring that the anchor bolts lined up with the ruler.
Did I align them right?

Man, that one of two 10mm bolts on the coupling took me 15min+ of loosening using a spanner infront of the driver's seat at the wreckers. The space where the coupling is located is so tight that I could only do like 1/16 turns!
So much faster in the engine bay!

Notice the positive camber at the rear, haha! I matched the length as to the stock camber arm though. Maybe cos bushing changed + not at the same height are the factors.

use the bmc on the left - the later model 1" BMC (98-00) have 2x 10mm fittings whereas the earlier model has 1x 12mm, 1x 10mm. you might need to bend the first line a bit too

FYI don't leave the car rolling on the ground without axles installed and torqued. the front wheel bearings need to be torqued and loaded or may cause premature wear. keep it jacked up or install some outer cv's
