Struggling to get the lower ball joint to separate with the knuckle so i can remove it

I've tried the jacking it up and placing a socket extension between the joint.
I focused the load on the knuckle bolt and jacked it whilst hitting it with a hammer.
Tried the good on smacking it with a hammer.

Just isn't budging, the left side came off with the jack and hammer.

Any other techniques people know of that work? would appreciate the help

Jack up under the lca until parallel with the ground

place a wheel nut between the hub and lca in the gap.

Slowly lower the jack which will force ball joint apart with the nut jammed in the gap.

This usually works.

Sounds stuck then.

Have you got adjustable coil overs or stock suspension? If adjustable try increasing the height/preload to get more force on the joint when letting the jack down.

Otherwise get a ball joint separator and a big lever, will probably damage the rubber boot though.

If all else fails heat up the joint with a torch or cut the ball joint with a hacksaw.

I used a hair dryer cause i don't have a torch still didn't work, so i just jacked it up with the socket on the bolt and hope to wake up to see it undone.

Btw do you have a red dc2r?

If wedging the joint with a socket extension doesn't work then that ball joint separator won't work either. I bent the bolt on one of them trying to get an upper joint undone once...

I would suggest soaking the night before you attempt it in WD40 or similar then use either the long fork type separator you hit with a (mini sledge 2pound) hammer and drive a wedge between the joint or get yourself a torch and get it properly warm! (hair dryer won't get hot enough) then use separator/socket/extension method

You will need to replace the boot and possibly the whole joint but hey, you only said you wanted to separate it!

Just to clarify, you've still got the coil over installed while trying the jack/wedge method?

I would still try increasing the shock length/preload on the springs and giving another try. You can usually undo the shock collar with a flat blade screwdriver and tapping with a hammer, c spanners are better though. When it's wedged in and jack lowered punch the ball joint down with a sledge if you can get to it, leave the nut on a few turns so it doesn't damage the bolt as much and pop off suddenly and damage something else.

Agreed with mooshie hair dryer is not hot enough to do anything so scratch that idea, you need flame heat.

small sledge hammer and hit the shit out of it but down hit the thread and leave the castle nut on there.
