Do you mean an ED6 or an EF8or9 or a different EF? EF8/9s already have a short shifter - EDs don't and nor do the garden variety JDMs - but the ebay ones are known to break.

i dont really see any problems with them, they work the same, they move the rods in the same manner as stock shifters i think?

EF8/9 come stock with short shifters?
are you sure?

the only problems with short shifter is:

you loose the mechanical advantage of a stock shiter, ie. its harder to put into gear, but not super heard lol, my gf can easily shift with my B+M shiter.

B+M ones fit perfect and even have the stock HONDA metric thread on top so u can use stock knob.

i sell B+M ones, dont get a POS egay one.

Mine did as did 2 mates in NZ as well as 1 in Vic. EF9s though. The shift is distinctly shorter than the ED adn the rest of the EF series. I an fairly sure a mates Euro EE9 is the same as mine too - will check when I speak to him next.

The Yanks who have used the cheap ebay versions in their EDs have talked about problems with them, breakages etc.

Mine's got one too. The only negative thing I've heard about short shifters is that apparently they put more stress on the synchro's

I got one off ebay and its been fine that's cos i didn't know any better before, but i must of got a good deal cos i haven't seen any signs of breakage. I have to admit you will feel the diff and i think you will love driving your car even more! It makes it quicker to shift between gears, but since the Honda boxes are so easy to shift i haven't even noticed the hardness added. (could also be cos i got a spoon gear knob (thanks again Jones))

I recommend you buy one even if it is a cheap ebay one.

i just talked to one of the mechanics at hondworld down here in melb too, and he said that short shifters will stuff up the synchros.....

anyone know bout that? would it be different for different cars too?

Doubtful. As long as it's ratio for the throw = the original ratio so that the gears are meshing as they would with the original shift then all should be good.

As long as it's ratio for the throw = the original ratio

which short shifters would have the same ratio?

how do you know what kind of short shifter fits the car? or are they universal ?

you see, thats the problem - how are you supposed to know if the short shifter you're buying has the same ratio as the stock one??
