Hey Guys, need your help on this.
Do you guys have this problem where after driving the car and then parking it, say in the garage. I tend to hear this clang noise under the car??
I can understand the car is cooling down, but does this 'clang' noise under the car (at least I think it is coming from there) cause any mischief to the engine or the car in any way???
It does kind of sound loud at times, along with some clicking after the engine is turned off.

Is this normal???

Thanks
Paul

If you wanna get rid of it, removing the heat shields from around the exhaust manifold, und underneath the car surrounding the cat, and catback piping gets rid of most of it. Although removing lets the heat radiate from exhaust through into your car. Which may damage somthing, but doubt it.

is it not advised to remov the heat shield off stock headers??

It is just funny because I never really use to hear ths noise until recently.
Just had to check with you guys if it could be a problem, but if you guys say it is normal, then I guess there is no need to worry.
Cool..... :)

Sometimes it's the aircon water, but mostly it's the contraction of metal through heat loss....

My car has no heatsheild over the headers and doesn't make this noise at all.

the "noise" we are talking of dosent come from the headers as the metal is a tad too thick to expand and contract enough under the heat up/cool down cycle - its more the cat back piping underneath .

Bennj, thanks mate. It just clangs very loud at times and just never really use to hear it. :)

did u just move to a enclosed garage? that tends to make the sound louder due to echo

yer had the same..

its most likely doing it cos the heat shield looks like its made of a pretty thin sheet of aluminium (or similar metal).. heats up quickly, dissapates heat pretty well, and clangs like a bitch when it cools down and contracts.

is all good

No, it's been in the same garage same spot ever since I bought it.

i have 2 honda civics, 97 and 98 cxi's, and both make a clicking sound from the catalic convertor when i turn the car off... From the sounds of it, it just sounds like its contacting after being heated.
