soon will have to say goodbye to my boy racer teg, need a bigger car cos starting family and need to tow a 900kg boat.
im looking at VE commodores 07-10 models, will they be as fun to drive as a integra GSi lowered with coilovers, camber and bars and control arms, plus intake/exhaust upgrade?

I would say the commodore V6 would smoke the teg at straight line and super confortable but the integra is rough, very agile, nimble to drive and handles good. everything is responsive. will the aussie pride gives same driving experience without suspension upgrade? or will it feel like a floating castle ?

Anything commodore is far from nimble to be honest.

Even when I drive the HSV's at work. They aren't nimble at all. Some can turn, but wont be like a civic/teg with sways.

The weight really kills it.

I'm glad you like boats because now you get to own two!

In all seriousness though, it would be nearly as fun but you will have what 'feels' like a faster car in a straight line (can't say because I don't know which Commodore you're thinking of). Both are good cars but you're comparing two very different cars. Test drive one and decide what you like. I personally didn't enjoy my experience when driving a VE for 2 weeks (rental) but that's just my personal opinion.

It feels faster in a straight line thanks to plenty of torque, just put your foot down and go, teg takes a bit to wind up but they are pretty much the same speed.

Handling there is no comparison. The extra 600odd kilos kills it

better get your skippers ticket while you're at it

The only way to have it handle on rails is to have high springrates that resemble your integra's setup

I had a supercharged l67 vt commodore.
Had a bit of power for what it is was a nice comfy car with a bit of power.

I drove an au falcon and it handled much better that the vt... I don't know if that was cause of bushes or what not.. but maybe falcons are also something to look into..

If you buy a commodore be prepared to cop shit at car meets by boy racer douche bags with backwards caps in crap box, ke70s, s13s etc who think you're the bogan even though their car is a pos decked out with fake parts.

All the reports I've read consistently state that the Fords handle better than the Holdens.

Fanboys will disagree, I don't care.

Reality is, your fun days are over if you sell the Honda. Why not keep both? Just buy a cheaper Commo (EG the VT with an LS2 5.7L V8).

Its a car for your family, keep it stock and simple.

I would suggest getting a cheaper commie so you can keep both cars.

Handling in a Commodore? What handling? No... Actually it's not that bad, with the VT and beyond Holden actually put a decent amount of effort into suspension design and they go around corners OK, the difference really is that you're hauling a metric shit tonne of weight in comparison to an Integra and it's not going to be nimble... with a V6 its really not going to be particularly fast either. They can turn OK but they're not by any means going to be "nimble" or particularly fun.

I'd keep the Integra or get something else that's fun to drive on the weekend.

Forget the VE. And go for a fg xr6 auto . Bigger boot, better fuel economy and "sportier"

P. S dougie. Ls1 is the 5.7. Massive flop over a motor even with mafless tune and exhaust.

u mad?

this, i got to drive my mates fg xr6 as a daily for a week.

very nice to drive, muchhhhhhhh better then the old ba.

it does feel heavy but i wouldn't say it handles poorly, some better shocks and some thicker swaybars amd im sure it'd be pretty nice actually, while still being comfy and family friendly.

loved the torque, could spin 1st gear pretty easy lol, would chop a vtir integra in the straights no worries, probably even a stockish dc2r.

would recommend as a daily/10 (over a commo anyway)

The straight 6 turbo is also where its at, they haul, I'm not a Falcon driver, plenty of my mates are though, actually I was sitting in the back of a 300 rear wheel horsepower XR6T the other day with a guy I didn't know and I was actually kind of scared.

If you ask me I don't know why people want so much power for a road car, but that's only my opinion and whatever...

u mad?

300hp atw? thats nearly stock

easy as to get 350kw atw, now that would be a little scary lol

Integra-GSi
05-10-2013, 01:19 PM
Yeah... They're just kinda scary anyway, but then I've been around 100kw four pots like AE86s, and Integras, and euro hatches with not much more power than that. Then My Z10 Soarer which really didn't have that much more power anyway, despite being relatively quick. I've never really gotten the obsession with ridiculous amounts of power on a car that can't handle it in the corners which doesn't feel that safe in a straight line either. Maybe I just care more about not dying from stupidity.

My family has used Fords for work [XF, EF, AU] and if you guys say Fords are better handling than Commos then hell your Integra is lightyears ahead in chassis and suspension competency! Many factors already listed above. Wait till you get in the wet to see just how good the rear end is...

why not get a jap family car? nissan maxima? has the 350z engine in it..

Of course theres the completely nonsensical choice of a C34 Laurel, or a JZX100 Chaser/Cresta/MK II. The Later is just an updated Cressida, so none of this they're not family cars business... :p You could definitely spend a little less and keep the the Integra. I do occasionally speak complete and utter nonsense though.

Munched my mates new commodore, dunno what the new ones are called (not a fanboy of holdens)

We bought our cars on the same day, he said he was doing the smart thing buying a NEW commodore (LOL right? But his a police officer)

Even took him to test drive a few s2k's he reckons the commodore was a better car (his still copping shit, even from the honda haters in the group)

i personaly find the holdens and fords to be essentially the same thing but there are other lager cars on offer from toyota, nissan, mazda etc then theres also the SUV option.. i would keep the teg and pic up say a mazda 6 or simmiler imho unless you have enough over weight kids to fill the rear seat the fords and holdens are excessive.

Pick up a v8 celsior. Not uncommon for those to reach a million k's unopened.
Cheap and heaps of cool features.

V8 though man... ouch... Although 1UZFE is surprisingly good on petrol. The other issue, LS400 is a metric shit load bigger than any commodore, it's bigger than a Fairlane, do you really need a car that big? They're overly expensive to run.

The sensible option for the future is a Euro diesel like a VW Passat, or Peugeot 407.... Then direct injected LPG Commodore/Falcon. The 2.0L Peugeot HDi engine is indestructible and more than 10 years old now technology capable of 1million miles in Euro spec taxis, mated with Asin Warner 6 speed auto, the same as in Ford Boss V8 powered cars. You pretty much can't break them unless they haven't been serviced properly. Not quick, but 4 cylinder economical and plenty of torque to pull a car trailer. Just don't buy a 4 speed.

You can buy 2006 model onwards 407 for not much more than $10k they make sense in terms of economics. They're much better built than any Commodore and have a chassis built for corners.

look into the cost of oem brakes on peugeot. rotors and pads are done at the same time. everytime. if u follow recomendations

Integra-GSi
10-10-2013, 06:22 PM
Yeah, parts are a little more expensive than Toyota, Ford, Holden, etc... Less expensive than VW. Not sure exactly how much brake rotors cost, other big issues with the HDi engine (and diesel engines in general) include things like the particulate filter, can cost $1000 to replace if not serviced properly, general service bills are not over the top if you take it to a mechanic that knows Euro and doesn't see you as a cash cow.

Daveho1
10-10-2013, 06:29 PM
most peugeot rotors rrp at around 220 a corner some up to 330 for those with the wheel bearing, pads are 180-290 per set. i have seen these die in 20k-30k from moderately hard driving. that being said they are good brakes.
DPF are gennerally over 1k closer to 2 in some cases and well as that FAP system. (i know FAP...lols) $500+

Integra-GSi
10-10-2013, 08:20 PM
They're definitely good brakes and good cars in general, always have had Pugs and loved them, would buy one again, just nothing came up when I was looking so I bought my Teg for a daily instead.

yeah they are definitely a different beast to our hondas very diffrent indeed, i do parts for pug and citroen in case you couldnt guess.
on a side note had a customer snap the timing chain on a new 208 gti (had 350km on it..) but that happens when you redline second then smash it into first

Maximum hilarity ensued... H patter bro, how'd you find first instead of third? I know reverse is in a weird place on some pugs, but... seriously.... that effort.
