vtec problem?

hey guys i got a b16 in my em1 and every time i hit vtec it cuts out around 8.2k rpm? is that normal or would there be something wrong?

it feels like i loose power then let go of accelerator and it goes back to normal?

so does vtec cut out at a certain RPM or it can keep going?


any info would be great

yes i am trying to, but if i was to go past red line it wouldnt cut out? would just bounce? cause it feels like a full loss in power.

i could only see it bouncing off redline if you had a after market ecu with a limiter set for you at a safer RPM

say for your example, 8k

but you do not have, so hit dat fuel cut which is saving your engine from potatoing into the ground

Glad you asked though.

Don't keep bashing your rev limit like that. Change up a gear - you're not making any extra power in that high RPM anyway.


Otherwise get some cams that make power up that high, upgrade your valvetrain sufficiently, get a tunable ECU, and you can rev to 9,000RPM all day long like me whilst still making POWA!
