There is Castrol Edge Engine Oil Titanium on sale atm 5w-30. My car has about 90,000km. Is this oil alright for it? or it made for higher performance cars?

I'll probably buy it and use it for winter instead of now though. As it is getting quite hot and I think 5w is too thin for this summer heat.

I would recommend a 10w40 blend for this summer as it is getting quite warm.. and it also depends on how / where you are driving. If you are doing long trips then I would more than likely recommend a 15w40 or 10/15w50 blend because even in spring, it is blazing up here in Sydney.

TL:DR - Short trips, 5w30 is fine but longer trips up the ante. 15w40 oils are quite cheap relative to other viscosities and therefore you can get a more high performance heavy oil to suit your drive style.

Short trips as in 15-30mins? Long trips 30mins+?

5w30 is alright for winter though right, even for long trips? Thinking of buying it for winter.

Short trips as in.. yeah and not getting stuck in traffic.

5w30 should be MINT for winter especially with that cold start protection, on a D16 I wouldn't run any lower unless it is built.

On a D16 I would run Penrite HPR10 10W50, regardless of summer/winter climate. Great oil that will protect better than the "off the shelf" stuff castrol sells. If you want to go a little thinner, but not worry about shear, run the Penrite 10 Tenths Racing 10W40

Penrite HPR 10W50 - That's what I run in my GTI-R :)

Hey stndrd, on the EK that has done over 280K, its currently using Penrite PRO 20 (20W-50) Mineral, which was selected as the engine has done that many Klms. Is this an oil you recommend for higher Klms engines, or would you still go the Penrite HPR10 10W50? I read that potentially if we were to change oils to a different level you'd have to run a cleaner through the engine is that correct? Thanks

Hey man how are you?

The Penrite PMO 20W50 is a mineral based oil that is well suited to your current mileage. If you were wanting to change over to the more expensive synthetic HPR10, I would recommend using an engine flush before draining the oil at the next service. The HPR10 will protect the engine well with the higher zinc levels, better detergents & slightly wider viscosity range. It is not necessary to run the HPR10, but when people are wanting to start using Edge Sport, I offer something else that works better for slightly cheaper
