Opinion on motor conversion for my daily driver

I got a 96 ek with the usual d16y4, really over the d16 and wanted to do a conversion, jus wondering whats the best bang for buck conversion, not looking at pushing big numbers but maybe something with a bit more torque and a bit of spirited driving here and there.

The torque is definitely worth it, but the stock box is average, hence why everyone has been recommending a b16/itr box
