Hi guys, currently getting an all motor setup on my b18c and in the meantime I'm trying to rebuild/refurb all the bits and pieces on the motor, intake system, exhaust etc.. I'm currently looking at fixing up my dizzy as it's 170xxx old.
Would buying a new cap and a new rotor be a good idea, or better off buying a whole new dizzy? I know classically the rotor and cap are the first things to go so I figure this would be a good place to start. What do you guys think?

If it ain't broke don't fix it IMO with dizzy's. If it shits itself then refurb.
And IMO refurb, don't buy new. More financially viable.

I would replace the igniter unit and coil. These two parts are prone to fail, and when old they will progressively weaken too.
BTW do not buy a new aftermarket unit from eBay or other - I purchased a new dizzy from eBay for $180 , it failed literally on the first drive and was $120 out of pocket for towing. THEN had to spend another $40 to send it back to eventually get a refund. FFS
Oem parts ftw

Replace the rotor and cap if they need it, look for cracks and worn electrodes. Only replace the ICM and coil if you are having issues. Stay away from refurb or cheep Chinese distributors, some may have had good results with them but you do get what you pay for in the end

Not really having issues, just I know these parts wear out over time and would like everytning running to best it can. Do you guys not think it's worthwhile, at 170xxx. Maybe not the dizzy but at least other aspects of the ign system. Rotor and cap are cheap and easy anyway

coil doesnt wear put over time, when it fails youll get stranded.
id swap it new coils and igniter

So there's no noticeable difference in drive ability when changing icm and coil?

Not searching for more power, just want the car up to scratch and smooth. Maybe I'll just get new ign leads and call it a day

The bigger problem would be the dizzy o-ring leaking :P

I bought a crx that came with cheap Chinese dizzy.
Eventually the center shaft rusted, caused friction/heat
Melted the rotor button leaving it to spark at the wrong timing.
Stranded me.
As others have said, stick to oem.
Stop buying replacing things that work perfectly fine.

Haha it's called preventative maintenance. But yes I haven't touched the dizzy, just ordered some new ign leads, was never going to buy cheap replacement dizzy regardless
