hi guys. my 1997 d16y4 hatch is getting a b16b right this moment and i have the engine spare. i just picked up a 1997 d16y8 coupe with a completely munted engine (timing belt slip). whats the best way to change these engines over? im thinking swap everything including the 1 piece engine loom?? the coupe has abs and passenger airbag while the hatch doesnt.

is it worthwhile keeping the d16y8 gearbox? thanks

swap the engine over with the wiring harness, ecu, loom and keys. no need to change the gearbox

the Y4 would be a downgrade

For the effort it would take you, just get the Y8 head reco'd. Probably cost you the same by the time you do a full engine swap and all the other crap involved. Need new belts, valves maybe etc not exactly a fortune to spend.

i havent opened it up yet but if its anything like the mess i was left with when my is200 belt snapped then both the head and block will be trashed.

Often it's just bent valves, head reco...

have done the conversion to d16y4 but the injectors arent firing. the pump primes and there is spark. instead of changing keys we moved the immobilisaer chip from inside the y8 ecu to the y4 ecu. if the cause is from the immobiliser would the car crank at all? the car cranks and starts if we spray carb cleaner through the tb.

Test injector pulse with noid light or multimeter

Which wiring harness are u using

fixed it.. the immobiliser chip we soldered over was a little loose inside the ecu. everythings all good now thanks for the help. btw im using the d16y4 engine loom. luckily the green c131 ecu connector is the same between the 2 cars unlike the obd2a-obd2b mess im in with the b16b conversion.

keep that d16y8 loom, its worth quite a bit because it can be used for b series conversion on ek/ej with modification :D

Yeah I definitely will. I should have used it in my obd2b b16b. Instead I repinned my obd2a car to suit the new engine harness, not hard just lots of researching. Life would be much easier if there was a diagram for the obd2b green c131 connector.
