what kinda head can i jam on my d16y4?
more power and possibly vtec will be good
D16y8 Head SOHC VTEC
D16y1 Head SOHC VTEC
Your D16y4 has approximatly 88Kw. In stock form a D16y1 and D16y8 engine run 96Kw and 93Kw Respectivly. By Swapping on either of these heads, expect to be running 95Kw to 100Kw range. Put on a nice intake, Header and 2" Catback exhaust and expect another 7 - 10Kw. Then you got possibilities for camshaft, ECU for some more power.

d16y8 ( vti ) runs in at 96kw peak power.
Na it doesn't, heaps of people think it does. But it only has 127Hp = 93Kw

please give us an official source for everyone.
Also , just bolting on another engines head will not necessarily bring the peak HP back up to the same peak hp it was - other factors come into play such as compression . bore and stroke etc etc etc.
IMO , its better to fork out abit more for a engine conversion for say the actual engine ( a d16a8 , or d16y8 etc) and get it right in one go.

if im going to do a whole engine conversion i may as well swap a b16 b18 or a b20 into my car
the idea of the d series head was to be easy and cheap

not too sure how compression will be affected by swapping onto a d16y4 but a bloke over here swapped onto a d15b and achieved a CR of 11:1. huge difference, especially in top end. KB knows more about this i'm sure
im sure ive posted this before:

d16y4 + d16y1 head != same power as a d16y1. u get mooore cause of compression.
