if u check out the vid (its only small) you'll be able to see what im talking about..

VID (right click save as) (http://www.users.on.net/~majic/weird.WMV)

if you notice in first gear just before 7K rpm the tacho quickly bounces backwards then forwards..

anyone know what could be causing this ?? it doesnt do it all the time..

thanks :hmm:

you can rule out vtec kicking in... because it dosnt go backwards then fowards... vtec should kick in round 5000 not 7000 anyways... sure its the engine or is it only the tacho?

yeh i dont think i feel any change in the engine
it doesnt happen all that often to really tell
hmmm

looks like there is something wrong with your tacho, coz i dun think you could drop like 3000 revs the way that car is being shifted. and it pretty much sounds out coz at 7000 revs. the car should scream hard

get it checked. better safe than sorry.

i dont think u know what im talking about...
its not when im shifting ???
when accelerating in 1st gear when it reaches just before 7krpm it quickly bounces back then forward again up to 8krpm..

btw i was only shifting half fast.. i slowed down when i saw the revs bounce lol

oh wells then, just get it checked at the mech to be certain.
it just looks like the tacho is jumping crazy from my point of view.yeh i think i can see it now, the short backward jerk before it hits vtec..i dunno... a mech probably need to drive your car to see whats happenning.

i thikn he does know wat you talking about. what he was saying is.. he thinks your tacho is f'd.. and to back up his claim.. when you shift gears, it drops from 8k-5k.. this is another problem ontop of your reves going backwards, then forwards again.

note: i have no idea how much revs it drops when you shift. just basing my opinion on what users have sed.. and also. someone sed that they could hear the engine drop revs when it goes backwards, then forwards/ i too heard it.. anyone else ?

FR33K

like i said i slowed down the shift when i saw it bounce..
on a proper shift it will drop back down to about 5500 (give or take)
thought that was normal for a b16a ?

Happened to my car once...it was the igniter on the distributor...cost $60 at Hanny's

Oh did you get your tacho replaced? didnt the LS redline at 6700rpm?

Thats queer , have never seen that before, nice gsr dash though freek , check your wiring though man cos its like it takes a step back then just as quick takes 3 steps forward, dont think its the engine , but i could destinguish wether the engine was actauly reving like the tacho says, the only thing i would worry about is that your car determines its air/fuel ratios and timing on that same rpm signal, worst case senario it gets worse and the engine leans out abit ,

Mugen boy

or its just a dogy connection at the back of your new guages , but that doesnt explain why it only happens in first ....hmmmmmmmmm , no idea

i had a similar sort of problem with my old crx when i had it, there was a problem with the tacho and it didnt read accurately, in my case the motor revved fine and the tacho did a similar thing to yours. Im pretty sure thats whats wrong with your one because it didnt sound like the revs dropped.

sounds like the cluster is about to fail...

mine did the same thing (kinda)... hit 100km over and it bounced...

week later needle would go crazy randomly on random drives...

costed me around 180 to get it fixed

my tacho use to bounce. It was just a case of loose wires to the tacho, bought a bit of dieletric gel which is like $2 redid the wires. Problems fixed. not too sure about ur car...my car revs use to bounce as soon as i started revving. but im pretty sure theres an article on bouncing revs on www.g2ic.com hope u fix ur problem!

Hi FR33K,

I just watched your video properly. How old is your clutch? A slipping clutch will make your engine RPM rise under load, especially in low gears.

FR33K
07-04-2005, 03:38 PM
dunno how old the clutch is but it is about to go..
but its definately not slipping under load
sometimes only when changing gears.

I would just say its your tacho needle getting old and worn ... my old crx did the same thing, but I didnt take any notice of it... and my old merc had to have the speedo needle/motor replaced twice because the needle would just bounce around.

i think its ur tacho dude. comparing it to the sound of the motor it looks like the tacho lags unti it reaches 7000.your best off getting an auto electrician to check it out.
