Any ideas what is causing this? I tired 3 times but the car failed to start (sounds like weak cranks btw). Waited a few minutes and car started fine but rpms rough but then settled after about 5-10 seconds. Battery volts read 12.7 when car is off. Battery is a few years old and has needed to be charged a few times in its life.

Car is pretty much stock electrical wise with just a CD player. Alarm arms/disarms via the remote all ok and all lights gauges etc work fine. Should have taken a video of it...

I let the car run fo about 1 minute, turned it off for about 5 minutes, started back up fine.

If it is a battery problem - shouldnt it be reading less than 12.7V?

Any idea?

battery voltage is dropping to low for the alarm and the alarm resets as if the battery was disconnected and arms itself while cranking. Sounds like your battery is on the way out.

The engine is running rough assuming your running the OBDIIa P73 ECU, it also possibly has reset and lost its idle parameters, an idle relearn may be necessary.

Thanks for the reply ECU-MAN, this is the first time the car has had trouble idling (Yes stock ECU) and was only rough for a few seconds. How is an idle relearn done?

After an ECU reset with warm engine, allow the engine to run with no electrical load for 5min.
