Hi Guys ,

My car engine check light lid up and upon send to local workshop inspection it gives an error code "41-04 H02S Sa Heater Failure".

Does anyone know if this error refer to the upstream or downstream sensor ?
and what is the denso/bosch part number that I can buy online and get it replaced ?

Honda Civic 2.0
Year manufacturer 2004
AT transmission

Hope someone will be able to help me on this because I am struggling hard and do not know what to do  ..... Thanks

Best regards ,
Richard

What is the proper code.

It would be a P0xxx or P1xxx type code that is from the OBD-II system.

Maybe one of the following

P1166 Primary HO2S (No. 1) Heater System Electrical
P1167 Primary HO2S (No. 1) Heater System

Code 41 is Primary Heated O2 Sensor on OBD-I cars

To replace it you will need the right tools.

This is a socket designed for O2 sensor replacements, use it when installing the new sensor.

I have this EXACT CEL error. Thanks Grayfox!

edit - It's actually 41-04 HO2S S1 HEATER FAILURE.

Car is a JDM 2005 Civic TypeR (EP3)

Is that any different?

That is not a OBD-II check code.

Proper OBD-II codes are a 5 digit code starting with P for powertrain/emissions, U for network, C for chasssis and B for body on the start.

But being S1 i would assume it is sensor 1.
Which is before the cat.

Grayfox thanks for your reply.

I do not have the tool to check the error code again. I got the error code from local workshop. They will charge me each time when i request them to scan the error code.

Assuming is the 2 part faulty, P1166 & P1167, does anyone have any idea where can i purchase it online ? thanks

Richard

I cant see how they can charge you for the code retrieval since they didn't give you the correct code to start with.

All cars sold in australia after 2006 are OBD-II complaint and have codes that are in the format set by the SAE.

It states the connector must be a 16 pin D plug like so.
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/3/38/OBD-connector-pinout.png/220px-OBD-connector-pinout.png

It also says the Check codes must be all universal
These are generic code formats

P00xx - Fuel and Air Metering and Auxiliary Emission Controls.
P01xx - Fuel and Air Metering.
P02xx - Fuel and Air Metering (Injector Circuit).
P03xx - Ignition System or Misfire.
P04xx - Auxiliary Emissions Controls.
P05xx - Vehicle Speed Controls and Idle Control System.
P06xx - Computer Output Circuit.
P07xx - Transmission.
P08xx - Transmission.

I would invest in a ELM327 tool from ebay and get torque for android.
It can pull codes, and show live data.

Grayfox, thanks.

Thats a good idea. Will try to look out for the exact error code to find out which sensor to replace.

Never seen codes like those.

Was expecting to see a P0135 at the least.

I have the DTC troubleshooting guide for the R18A2 FK2 civic since i have the service manual.

Hoping the R20 is very close to the R18 in terms of wiring and troubleshooting.

It is a very long image

Use it as a guide since it is not the same engine or model of car.

I've ordered an ELM327 tool and will try an app on my macbook. Hopefully I'll be able to get a Pxxxx code.

If you have a android phone i recommend getting torque.
You get real time sensor readings.

I don't have an android, unfortunately. I have a MacBook and will get MoviPro - At $65USD it'll pay itself off within a few uses (time taken to go to a workshop). I could even get a wifi/bluetooth reader and get the iPhone app Dashcommand (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/dashcommand-obd-ii-gauge-dashboards/id321293183?mt=8). Which do you recommend GrayFox?

So I got my cel checked with a different obd2 scanner and got this (see attached pic). 2643826438

Does that mean both O2 sensors are now dead??! :(

I dont use any apple product, I hate apple.

so i cant say.

But you dont even have to use it for diagnostics.
Live data from the car will include.
Speed(OBD(this is pretty much true speed)
RPM
Coolant temp.
Throttle Positions
*one is throttle body
*one will be throttle pedal
Fuel trim shot
Fuel trim long
Fuel flow in cc/min
engine load
--------------------------------------------
Those CEL codes are proper OBD-II codes

A test you can do to test the HO2S.
