Hey guys,

Having some trouble with my Jazz; sometimes it doesn't start! It's done it 3 times now; the car will crank as usual but just doesn't kick over, I've tried clutch starting it also but it doesn't start. It's been playing up for 2 weeks now and when it has refuses to start I just leave it for the day and then the next day all is as normal, it starts and drives as normal.

I took the car to Hanny's last week and Rob said the battery and alternator are fine and he couldn't diagnose it further as it was running as normal and the engine light isn't on.

I have a suspicion it could be the fuel pump; has anyone had to replace one on their Jazz before?

Any other ideas of what it could be?

It's a 2003 Jazz Vti.

Cheers.

Alex.

Do you hear the fuel pump prime when the key is in the 'on' position (sounds like a humming)

No priming when on reds (when it plays up)

How many K'ms?

Could be, it missed out a fuel filter replacement?

I know people say dont change it unless something goes wrong, My Jazz has felt better ever since I've changed mine

IMO Placebo effect??

Stab in the dark.

Main relay perhaps? If it controls the fuel pump through the ignition and theres a problem with the relay could stop the pump from priming?

Potentially; I'm trying to figure out the best way to go about resolving the problem as I don't want to unnecessarily fix/replace things. Thanks for the tip.

I had the same problem in my 03 Vti-S (120,000kms). When the tank fell below half, it would not start until the third go. Apparently bad fuel caused it despite using 98. It cost me around $150 to get the fuel relay changed. Your car's relay might be worse than my one was.
