try spoon/toda/mugen or the OEM JDM 98 ITR headers. i hear that the first three are about 1100-1400 brand new, and about 800 second hand. OEM one i've seen on forums for 300 secnd hand. good luck.

I heard that 4-2-1 is best for 2000rpm - 5000rpm, good for street
while 4-1 is best for 5000rpm - 8000rpm, which is good for track.

PLease correct me if im wrong as im getting one soon too.

yup Thanh is right. Nothing wrong with 2nd hand goods if they have been looked after... especially a durable item like a header.

this is what I wrote on cRSX a few days ago regarding 4-1 headers.........

Finally got my JDM 4-1's installed today...
and I am extremely pleased with the result they have made.
I only installed the JDM4-1 w/ Honda donut Gasket & 2.5-2.25 adapter flange, still AUSDM catalytic converter and exhaust system...

I noticed pretty much identicle low end throttle/torque from idle-3500rpm (I thought I may loose power), better mid range 3500rpm-vtec point and at vtec+ I was tremendously impressed.

overall it has a much smoother feel, much clearer exhaust tone, and very noticable powerband, I found with the standard 4-2-1 that AUSDM DC2R's that you couldnt "hear" the engine rev's clearly and I also found the powerband to be a bit "rougher" if you know what I mean?

so for people who have been wondering if the hype over getting extractors/headers is all its cracked upto be I can assure you it is

I am sure if I was to upgrade to a mugen twin loop system or the like then the result would be even better, but I only wish to keep as stock as possible.

... dont really like second hand suff

hypothetical

$1500+ Mugen header
$800 Mugen header (2nd hand)

I'd have the 2nd hand one in a nanosecond. Providing the 2nd hand one isn't punctured or something, they will both do the exact same thing. It's not like they're a wearable item like brake discs, pads, light bulbs etc.

If you have $$$ to spend, I would go either Toda or Spoon. On a budget, JDM 4-1 is awesome value for money.

yeah - i saw you even replied, but i was going to say "yes, i guess it is - but make an offer"

but i thought that this woudl confuse EVERYBODY!
--
the bottom line to your question is:

bang for your buck = JDM 4-1's

"quality" will cost you at least twice as much, eg Mugen/Toda

and second hand "quality" is very rare indeed - so if you see non-replica Toda/Mugen headers - grab em!!!

etcha
05-04-2005, 04:21 PM
i had a guy pm me and asked me if i wanted replica mugen headers. what do u reckon?

tinkerbell
05-04-2005, 04:31 PM
it woudl depend to me on the quality of the welding both inside and out, especially after the bit where the 4 pipes merge into the one...

this is called the "merge collector" and must be uncluttered and smooth...

etcha

dont want to spend too much money on the headers coz i need to change my mugen muffler, coz its making these tinging & clatering nosies when i back off hi revs. I think because its not a straight throo.(check my car specs 4 pics)
dont know if im right?
should i change it?

PS - compare the price of it to some "brand name" ones like Apexi and 5zigen and Greddy???

notice they are cheaper than the JDM one ;)

Bang for your bucks...
And you're serious about modifying your car...
You only buy top shelf parts when you can afford them.
In between, you save up & waste your money on nothing.

Alternativly,
If you simply must have something now,
Your maximum budget is $800 or less...
Honestly, you're not going to get a set of top shelf headers.
This realisticly puts you in the market fot a set of cheapies.
If you're going to get cheapies...
Spend $350 & get a set of X-Force 4~2~1's
Performance is as good if not better than the ugly JDM stockies & there's no contest on the bling.

Sure, they're no match for a set of real headers (Ie: TODA's)
But for the money, they're on par with the JDM's, no problem.

Does anyone hear "maxim works" header?? Does it worth?? I found it is the most expensive header in Japan. In Japan option magazine: For DC5 TODA 128000yen, Maxim works 148000yen.

VERY good link there. Awesome... the stock JDM is so much better than the stock USDM/AUDM and yes, Toda's are the best.
