hey guys so i have a 94 dc2 and my current key for the car is really worn...to the point it falls out when driving. its enough to start the car but im kinda over it. not too sure if this has been covered extensively but yeah im looking into a replacement key. what would be my best option? would i have to go to honda and sort it out? im not too sure if the barrel is the original with the car cause i have no history of it.

thanks for your time guys

Your best bet is to buy a replacement key like the link below and get it re-cut :

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/GENUINE-HONDA-UNCUT-BLANK-KEY-CIVIC-CRX-INTEGRA-ACCORD-PRELUDE-88-00-/170922704436?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27cbc97e34

Or go to any decent Locksmith or key place to get a replacement.

And regards to going to Honda Dealer you can always go there to,
but im assuming you don't have the original keys that came with the car.

And finally if your key can open :
-Both Doors
-boot
-Key barrel
It should be the the original barrel.
So don't need to worry.

I actually had a similar problem with my Integra Vti-r 1997.
My key was worn out and had trouble starting it,
because the grooves weren't matching.

All I did was bought a new key and got it cut as stated above.

My car did not come with original keys or log books to get that special serial number to get the key from Honda dealer.

In my experience I showed the lock smith that my key was worn.
But still managed to start the car in front of him.

I don't know what he did but he said he'll take care of it.

I highly recommend going to the lock smith get to get proper advice.

There are other alternatives if you're bothers such as:
-going to wreckers and buying a set of locks including ( both doors, boot , and barrel comes with key) and change them over.
- I'm not sure because my car didn't come with original keys or log books, but I'm pretty sure the original keys or certain numbers you can take to honda dealer and they can help you out.

Or just go to lock smith as stated above.

I had the same issue when I got my dc2.

Go to a locksmith with the original key and your owners manual (if you have it) and get a new key cut to match the manufacturer key code in your manual. It will be hard to cut based on an old worn out key without the key code but potentially they can match up the profile to the correct one. I wouldn't bother with one of the shopping centre stall locksmiths, go to a reputable specialist locksmith shop.

You may find that the worn key will still work in the ignition but wont work well in the external locks even if they are the original barrels. I had this situation on mine, ignition had no problems but external locks wouldn't work with the worn key. Once I got the new key cut I had no problems with any locks, all the barrels are original.

do you not have an original (unused/lightly used) key?

would be cheaper than to cut from a code.

Ring honda service, see if they can look it up from your VIN.

regarding cost, I got 2 cut from the code in my manual for about $12 last year.
