I've got a 98 Integra GSi which has done about 183,000 kms.

I'm considering changing the power steering fluid, just for assurance; as I may be living with this car for a while. I believe its meant to last the life of the car.

Now I would like to know, if anyone has used aftermarket power steering fluid such as Castrol, because my mechanic uses Castrol for all the fluids. If so, did this cause any problems, or is it ok to use aftermarket power steering fluid?

P.S. The Power Steering works absolutely fine.

Thanks!

If you love your car you would buy the Genuine goodies for it :)

Only cost 15-20 depending on what store you get it from.

That's what happens when you mix power steering fluids.

Just make sure you flush the old fluid out before putting new one in.

Also would like to add,

I used aftermarket fluid( Some Bp brand) in my power steering pump in the past when I was still a Honda Noob.

Few months later started leaking.

I'm still contemplating whether it was the fluid or a faulty second hand pump I purchased.

-Having said that I have rebuilt my power steering pump
-Flushed all previous fluid out
-And now use Honda Power steering fluid.

Power steering is all happy again :)
And love my car again.

Just my 2 cents

Well I guess I can't go wrong with Genuine Honda PSF. I'll see if my mechanic can order it in. I just thought I'd check, coz some people were saying the same thing about Manual Transmission Fluid/Gearbox Oil. My mechanic used Castrol for it, beginning of last year; and I haven't had any problems so far.

And yes I was planning to flush it, not top up.

who told you that mate?

an independent honda mechanic in perth, he claims that if you can get the original stuff cheaper than penrite, then it makes no sense to buy penrite, but if not, penrite isnt any worse.

ive never tried it, i cannot comment. nor do i know anyone who has used the penrite stuff long enough to comment. im tempted to give it a try this weekend. i can manage to get it at $15/litre.
