Hi all,
Bought a used 2010 Euro a few months ago with 67000Km. The engine produces a pinging noise at around 2300 revs, especially up hill. I have noticed that it mostly goes away after driving a few kilometers.
But, if I stop the engine, start again, it starts pinging again. Therefore, it doesn't matter whether the engine is cold or hot. I only use 98 octane fuel in my cars.
From what I can find on the net, this seems to be a common problem, but it is hard to find a final solution for this issue.
Would anybody know whether there is a final and proper solution for this problem, please? The car is out of warranty, but does Honda recognise this as a problem that they are willing to fix free of charge?
Many Thanks

Its detonation, baby ) Been fixed here with ecu FW update. Also detonation can be caused by bad coils\spark plugs , weak fuel pump\clogged filters\clogged injectors. I doubt that with your fuel quality you can have any clogs so check coils and spark plugs + fw update.

Below is how I solved the pinging problem on a new 2012 Euro. The guy I buy my Amsoil oil carries the 0w-20 in stock and he heard that I'm not the only one who started using the 0w-20 Amsoil and has greatly reduce or remove the pinging completely by switching to this grade of oil. He can be contacted on 0423131170 (Johnny is his name).

Hi all,
Problem fixed! Apparently they scanned engine management for fault code and found a code 26-1 (Lateral Acceleration Malfunction).
They reprogrammed "ECM/PCM via HDS". No more pinging at any load nor at any revs. Magic.
EDIT: BTW, At the moment in the engine I have 10w-40 oil (as recommended standard oil by Shell). At next oil change, I'm switching to 10w-30.

Since they started to make reprogrammable ECUs they become full of bugs )) And this engine is a bug by itself ...
Congarats with solving this !

Hi mate,
Did it cost you anything to have this done? Can it be done by your local mechanic?
Cheers!
