Hey guys I am looking into buying a 06-08 civic. I just had a few questions to ask some owners. It will be manual, not sure on what model yet. Depending if i can bargain down the price itll be a sport or a vti-l or just a vti.
Is there much modding potential if i get the R18 engine?
Does the k20z put out any noticeable power?
The gearbox in them any good?
If you could inform me on more information it;ll be great! Really looking forward to it. I use to own a DC2R but got into an accident with it so I want something more reliable for the moment.

K20z is the detuned and pos version of the K20a etc.
r18 is a hopeless
The civic weighs about 200-300kgs more than the dc2 so don't expect great performance

Don't expect any performance, a c2 would probably pull on a fd2.
But for day to day driving it's not too bad in manual.

the R18a is a very good motor IMO, it has well shaped torque curve and is very suited to daily driving however it's got a very low redline and runs out of puff. more info here http://asia.vtec.net/Engines/R18A/ and here http://www.hondatuningmagazine.com/tech/0704_ht_r18_engine/
the k20z2 they have is a bit useless too being wildly detuned.. Wasn't really intended to go fast either, so it won't be going anywhere without a real dohc vtec head swapped in and maybe a different transmission

Would you prefer the r18 or the k20z2?
The only real differences i see in the 2 models of the actual cars vti and sport is that one has leather interior and a sunroof. Which one would you pick?

I would sell it and get a boosted s2000, but that's my preference.
I drove a VTi-L civic for 3 years and liked it enough, i think the sport is better in terms of the interior but the motor is a bit outdated in terms of fuel efficiency development (take a look at that article i linked), given it's a detuned performance motor
I managed to consistently hit about 7.5-8L/100km with a strong leadfoot in the R18A, i think you can probably expect 8.5-9.5, even 10 in the k20z2, so it's a relatively minor difference..
I suppose you could swap another K series motor in relatively easily too if you ever want it to go faster

I see thanks for the insight man! Definitely gonna look for a vti-l now, since they are cheaper.
