Hey guys... :D first time i post in the prelude forum...

anyway, a mate of mine unfortunately accidentally bought a prelude "S" thinking its an "Si" and so ended up with the F22A3 Engine...

So Just wondering is there anything GOOD about the F22A? Its basically a SOHC 2.2 EFI engine as you know, but is there a silver lining to it that someone would like to point out?

gary.. i think..

Si has a DOHC engine but non VTEC
Vti-R has DOHC VTEC

meaning the S is at the bottom of the line-up

never seen these before to tell u the truth..

should be good.. not a petrol guzzler!!

yeah....well spoon accord is right on the dot.
They arent as fast as the SI and VTiR but still have a bit of go.

The silver lining that i have found is that they dont have 4ws.......which is a pain in the ass if they go wrong, and without it they are a lil lighter.

Also the petrol, they used unleaded and not premium. Cheaper. thats it. As for looks, iv made mine look like the 96 version maybe better! hehehe

Just cos it is the S, doesnt mean it has no go, it may be 96kw, but thats still quite pokey compared to alot of cars. And as g33k said, it doesnt have 4ws, which on the 4th gens is a delight, cos they do have 4ws issues.

Also, if he ever wanted to do a h22a swap, than his car would be pritty light.

How the hell did he confuse a S with a Si? Didnt he open the bonnet.

sif not check the engine specs...h23a i think thats the Si model...h22a being the VTIR model...he should have checked the engine serial to make sure the engine is the real deal..my friend nearly did the same thing and i told him to tell me the engine serial and the dealer was a tool..telling him its an Si when its only an S.

well my mate was only just 18 when he bought the car and therefore didnt know jack about it :(

i used to drive the accord 4thgen 1992 with the same engine and i did find the engine to be pretty good... basically a D16Y with way mroe torque :)... boards in the USA actually said that the F22A powers the old accords to 60mp/h in like 9 seconds...which isnt THAT shabby i suppose

whats the engine like for turboing?

The prelude S would be similar...

ah, being SOHC, not alot of support unfortunatly, the h23 has plenty....

Maybe if he wants power, a h22a swap would be best?

Yeha, i dont get why they only used a single cam engine... as single cam even better on fuel? Even the older 3rd gens and some 2nd gens have dohc engines.

It's a prelude dude.. they are all good cars :D.. S models generally have less options so less parts that will break :)

My dad has an Accord with the same F22A engine. It's torquey down low in the RPM range, no point revving up above 4500rpm. This makes it very good for everyday driving. Revving it above 4500rpm, gives constant acceleration instead of increasing acceleration, so it feels a bit flat, although it is picking up speed. This makes it very confortable for the passengers when you decide to gun it.
Fuel consumption-wise, if the engine has above 100k on it, then it drinks a fair bit. With the auto, my dad gets about 12-13 L/100km for a mix of 40% city and 60% 80km/h limited freeway driving. Maybe it needs a tuneup.

From what i can remember, the F22 has better consumption than the h23, but the h22a has better consumption than the f22

Hell yea torquey down low, not much up high :D

Sounds like it needs a tune up. An average well looked after vtec 2.2 will run around 10-11L per 100km city driving
