Hi all, newbie here. I have 99 CRV Sport Auto timing belt etc replaced. Belt, pump & water coolant change $450 (Other KTAS franchise garage replaced those 40K/almost 3yr ago, but according to this mechanic they must have stuffed up. I think they did, because KTAS replaced my radiator and I had to go back 5 times for them to get it fixed properly & they also had to replace the replacement pump which was leaking only 2 month later).
Anyway, because the engine is also leaking, this mechanic had to replace
- 1 rear main seal
- 2 camshaft seal
- 1 sump gasket
- 1 crank seal
- 1 rocker cover gasket
- 4 spark o ring
Those are $600 extra. I have never owned a honda before, but is that a standard pricing for 15yr old CRV?

Cheers,
Ray

There is a fair bit of work in the rear main - remove transmission to get at it. Sump is also additional work. The rest would be done in the context of a timing belt usually anyway. Just ask them to evaluate how bad the rear main leak is? Including parts it does't sound that far off the mark.

Thanks chez00. The original issue was oil leaking & it looks bad. He said most likely new sump gasket & other extras needed. I wasn't planning to replace the belt & pump again, those were replaced only 40K ago (by KTAS). He showed me the old belt and said KTAS either use a shite quality one or didn't replace it at all. I say, most likely they are just incompetent mob than dodgy (they could not even replaced the radiator properly). He showed me the belt & said he has never seen a 40K old belt that worn out before during his 30yr experience with Honda (he only services Honda).
