Boys/girls
Have just got a new set of rims
Rears 17x9 +40
Fronts 17x8.5 +30
Was thinking 245/40 all round
What tires size would you recommend, for both track and street
Pros and cons..

I would recommend keeping the overall circumference close to stock as possible.
As for performance tires, i cant really say.
Many of the UK chaps like the Good year Eagle Asymmetrical F1 on the type R

Stock ap2 is front 215/45 and rear 245/40, so close to stock as possible say 225/45 front and 255/40 rear will be a good setup..

i'm running 235/40 and 245/40. I kept a bit of stagger because i wanted to keep the handling neutralish. Probably should have went 255 rear to handle the power but for my intents and purposes as a street driver it's OK imo. inb4flame

this was on 17x7+63

Cool man, yeah I'm leaning towards 225/45 and 255/40

First of all it depends on your handling mods, in terms of stiffness etc.

if you have an AP2 (legit ap2 not just an ap1 running ap2 sizes) then:
215 front mated to 245 rear for Standard (bias to understeer)
215 front mated to 255 rear for CR spec sizes (on ap2 suspension this will be even more planted at the rear, so more understeer bias)

also the wider you go on the front the more grip you get. at the expense of steering feedback.

if your actually an AP1 then you should be looking at a 20mm stagger 225F and 245R this is minimal. stock sizes are actually 205F and 225R but these are on a special tyre that has very unique sidewall technology, your next tyre wont have this hence you must run the 225-245. try keep stagger to 20mm at least.

ofcourse this all changes when you have coilovers and you will have to figure more of it out yourself.

2005 ap2, so yes I had the 215/245 set up on stock rims..
My plans are just coilovers, I don't wanna run heaps heaps of camber and I don't want stretched tires, so will a 225/45 tire suit a 8.5in rim with +30 offset??
If it makes a difference I'm going for a set of potenza re050

a 225 will fit, i have a 215 on an 8inch (looks like it is slightly pulled) so it will be a tiny stretch i think.

that offset is pretty low though might not fit without a bit of camber.

have you tried fitment of them already?

Cool man, abit of camber is fine I just don't want anything crazy lol

Not yet tyres will be in Tuesday and fitted, but still gotta wait for coilovers to come in and roll guards

im on 17x8+45 all round, with different sized tyres, but the back needed -2deg to sit in, the front is about -1 and sits a lil out

For the fronts anything
Lower than +43 is not recommended, my fronts are +30...

I was meant to say earlier - i'm on 17x9+63 and i'm running nearly flush (standard suspension tho)

#hellasensible

you're going to camber that i reckon - examples here http://rimtuck.com/search

Thanks Curtis some good examples on there, found s2ks that had similar sizes/offsets to me
Like I said abit of camber I don't mind just nothing crazy

what dadar running? i know he has rolled guards and is running quote low offsets, but accompanied by -3 camber

dc2screama

Whose Dadar lol?
If I was to roll and pull the front guards will I be able to get away with not having to camber the wheels?

I test fitted the front rims, just to see what it would look like with out the tires on..

As you can probably tell I'm new to all this camber/offset fitment thing, my rears I'm not worried about at all, but my fronts l gotta dial abit of camber in, tyres will be fitted tomorrow than gotta roll all corners, low than alignment!

I dont know how much you can gain by rolling the guards, rolling the guards makes it a lil wider but mainly lets u run lower without the wheels scraping the insides.

but with pumped rolled guards and about 2degrees all over it should be ok. -2 is recomended spec on ap1's on an ap2 it will wear a lil quicker but the Ap2 is more conservative so a lil more camber wont hurt

Did you jack up the lower control arm up to normal ride height when you did the test fit? Probably wont make that much difference but it'll give you a more accurate idea of how it'll sit..
If you're willing to stretch a smaller tyre on there you might get away with only rolling the guards. Since you want to avoid that i agree with baby face, rolled guards + camber.

Nah I had it jacked from the side jacking points and put a block of timber and rag slowy dropped the car to get a rough idea.
So rolled guards and -2 camber will be all good?
Is -2 really noticeable or heaps of camber

i have 2degrees its noticable but not radical, i have -1. on the front looks flat/

So after getting my tires fitted and on to the car, Iv gone out to tyre power reservoir to show them the car and what they could do.. They said Roll guards all round the rears will need -1 camber and the fronts there not actually sure if they can get them tucked in enough, they recommend hardrace camber kit installed to allow them to get some more tuck in as there not sure if the stock suspension will be enough
From my research you can dial in at least -3 camber on stock suspension which I'm sure is enough to clear the front rolled guards
Any input..

-3 on stock suspension? I thought it was max -2.
If you don't get camber kit, I think you can get offset ball joints or roll centre adjusters, one of the two, I can't remember. Cheaper than camber kit

Baby Face

-3 on lowered will work but -2.3 is max on stock

you can get the Offset RCA (roll center adjusters which are basically ball joints that are sitting out further to add -1.5 camber) the RCA's also shift the LCA down more in an effort to correct geometry so if ur not lowered and have the RCA style ones then it will have a negative impact on performance.
