Hi Peeps,
My names Kevin and I've just joined.
I have a EK Civic I'm working on. I was fortunate enough to pick up a Jap Spec DC2R 96model. I am going to put the engine in my civic and a friend of mine is going to change the front half of his DC2R to the JDM spec.

We just tried fitting the Jap Spec ECU into the AUS DC2 and it appears the power delivery is smoother, but the engine rides a bit rough. And also idle is sitting on 1400...

Could anyone tell me what the differences are between a 96 JDM DC2R and a AUS DC2R is???

Well, jap ecus are tuned for their climate and fuel. Alot of other things probably aswell.

Sorry I cant help anymore.

JDM Type R's also have higher compression and slightly different cam timing

Hey EK Civic R,
Just one question: Did u happen to buy the car off Terry at Valley Heights in the Blue Mountains??

Um.........i really want to know. Does your cpu light flash or not?? Andthen, did you check the timing??

Yea I got it from Terry...
Going to see him race this coming Sunday in his J-Spec DC2R

Can i ask how much u bought it for? I was actually very close to buying the car some 3-4 months ago. wanted to drive it on the street but there was no possible way to register it!
So what would u want for the front end body panels??

Yeh his race car is fairly decked out! does well up against some faster cars... gees he can talk tho!!

headers+exhaust are diff

you better be using 98RON fuel in it!

there is probably more i dont know about

Sorry to drag up old topic

But what exactly are the differances between jdm and adm ecu for drcr?
If you put jdm ecu in adm dc2r, what differances would there be?
JDm doesn't have immobliser and adm does, would changing of the ecu have any effect on this?

I thought jdm and adm had the same compression in the dc2r range, this true?

Apparently it doesnt. If you go back and read the thread properly. You can read what people have already posted.

Thanks for your wonderful insight, I did read what everyone posted but I just wanted to clarify weather it was all true or just rumoured. No where in the thread does it answer the questions about or clarify:

1. What "exactly" are the differances between jdm and adm ecu for drcr?
2. If you put jdm ecu in adm dc2r, what differances would there be?
3. JDm doesn't have immobliser and adm does, would changing of the ecu have any effect on this?

Also as a side question, what are the different compression ratios between the audm and jdm dc2-r?

Thanks all.

I have tried/owned JDM, Spoon, Mugen and a Buddy Club ECU on my AusDM DC2, they all felt the same to me, I did a better lap time in Sandown on the standard ECU than the JDM ones... but all the JDM ECU I had, had a higher idling (all above 1200 RPM)

I've seen the articles on a dc2r there does not seem to be any differences in the engine. I believe that the ECU mapping is prob speced up due to the JDM havng better fuel. AUS spec make 141kw JDM makes 147, external differences are the headers.

JDM has 4-1, AUs has 4-2-1.

Otherwise all profiles are identical so must be the fuel mapping. Run higher octane fuel and that should help your prob.

Wouldn't the JDM ECU be tuned for Japfuel? Maybe thats why your car is running rough. Well good luck on the conversions for both cars! Love the look of the JDM Type R too. ;)

yup what limbo said.
compression of both the jdm and ausdm are both 11:1 and that extra 6kw at the engine is from tuning and the headers.

correct me if im rong fellas.

So
If you ran a standard jdm type r ecu in place of audm type r ecu, it would idle higher?
Is that idling higher cold or when full warmed up?
What is the standard idle?
What petorl was running when this idle problem, if 98 octane was ran i couldnt see it having any problems with the mappings.

Unless there is something totally different on the jdm and audm engine, the tps sensor making it idle higher.

Well I dont know about the adm engines, but I do know the jdm ones, and the idle on the jdm ecu is normal. Why dont you use the jdm ecu? If the plugs are different buy an adapter harness, or re-pin/re-wire it.

The idle should not be higher. I say it's a dirty idle control sylinoid. Again from the honda itr to the acura type-r in the U.S. the difference in ecu's is the air/fuel map, and redline I believe.

kevin end up finish conversions with eg civic. engine finished interior still working on it.
my self drive dc2-r, but kevin's eg civic is fly... much faster than my dc2-r....
