Hi guys, I am currently doing a d16y8 swap, sounds like a money waste but whatever... The problem is when I bought the engine, it doesn't comes with wiring harness, and I've did some research and obviously the Y4 loom will not suit for the Y8. I am just wondering could anyone give me some hints that how could I run a cable through the vtec solenoid to the Y8 ECU?..

Pics are two plugs near the distributor, I am pretty sure if I don't want to buy a Y8 loom I will have to cut them and connect again by myself. Any help would be appreciated... Thanks heaps guys :)

you cannot make the Y4 loom work, it is to different

get a Y8 harness

As above, there are more differences than just distributor and vtec plug..

The ECU plugs are different, knock sensor missing, and possibly ckf sensor, alternator, o2 sensor differences too

The person who sold me the engine told me they're basically the same, sharing the same O2 sensor and alternator, almost the same... I dunno then..

Guys could I ask one more question?.. Does timing belt between y4 and y8 interchangeable?.. Thanks..

They told you wrong (in regards to the wiring)

why do you want to do a D16y4 to D16y8 swap anyway? you're going from 88kw to 93kw for a whole lot of effort...

money restraints and the amount of km clocked on the d16y4

Cuz it's hard to find something to give you extra fun for almost free, I saw that's a great opportunity to learn something :)

actually both engine are similar

y4 has 144nm peak torque at 5000 rpm non vtec

y8 has 145nm peak torque at 5500rpm single vtec

the y8 will not work as hard as the y4 to gain power due to extra kw and sohc

so there will be probably no gains except for i/h/e

I found another problem again.. My ECU is P2M but not P2P.. And guys you're right... The ECU coundnt even plug in.. Could the D16Y8 loom fits for the P2M computer?..

There it is mate, looks like an obd2a?.. Is that means I just need to find an obd2a harness whatever for D16 or B16?.. I am also curious are they interchangeable or not..

yeh that's OBD2a, you need a D16Y8 harness if you want everything to be plug and play

Can I use the EK4 harness? I guess it would suits?

You can use an EK4 harness if you can find one, however it will need to be modified as some things are in different spots

Thanks heaps.. I've tried to ring up a few wreckers today asked for a D16Y8 engine harness and all their answers are no.. I am not sure if they really out stock or they don't wanna part out the harness from the engine.. Hope some good news will come up tomorrow :)

people use them for B18C installs in EK's so they are also becoming hard to find

But if I am right, they will have to modify a little to fit the b18 isn't it?..

It's a D16Y8 harness, I am trying to using this one onto a D16Y5, I think that should be okay cuz Y5 and Y8 are sharing the same head?
