Got an ek hatch with the d16, gonna make the cai as one of my brothers freinds did it, gonna cost me 140$ for everything. I've done research and people say it can give you slight torque barley noticeable and better fuel consumption. Is it worth it??

Anyone with a cold air intake what do you think??

I'd say most users on here have tried a cold air intake at some point with varied opinions on the results
its safe to say they can add a little torque and hp on certain engines and setups but on a stock d16 you wont feel much
also you can probably make one for cheaper than 140,use a 3a pod filter and some generic pipings :)

if u are going to continue to mod the car the intake is something that will free it up for later, ie when u get exhaust, bigger TB, cams, tune etc. its a mod that will basically last unless u turbo. but unless u want to do atleast exhaust i dont think it will be worth while to get an expensive kit, just do a generic like mentioned before

Would it improve fuel economy for day to day driving with a d16?

possibly, but given your right foot's attitude will change, most likely not.

Alright thanks. Might do it for the sound because my car sounds shit

Fuel economy is going to go down
Why?
Because you'll always be wanting to rev out to at least 4k rpm for that nice throaty goodness

D-series, no cams. Will always sound sh!t even with CAI.

Just stick pod where ur air box normally goes, call it a day.
Cover with cheap bendable metal from Bunnings.
Total cost = $30-50. Depending on what sort of a pod you choose. Probs less. There is non to very minimal difference in pods.

Short RAM intake would suit an EK1 better.
Better acceleration over top end speed since the ek1 most probably won't get to light speed anyway.

I put a short ram on the d17 and it made it all sluggish as hell.
sounds cool though

SRI. Hot air. Bad idea.
Best idea is just to remove your resonator and plumb some flex pipe to your front grille.
u mad?

a stock honda is the best sounding honda.

I always liked the sound of a reving d series. You'll gain bottom end torque, nice mid-range hp. You'll lose 1-2hp up top compared to say an enclosed sri system (gruppem). But you get a broader powerband so worth it in my opinion.

Avoid using the flexy hose stuff, poor air flow.
just get some bends of alloy
if your gonna do it do it right, unless its too expensive in which case u just get a pod and stick it on.

i would do it but do so on the cheap you will notice the sound and and feel a bit more lively in the higher revs range

Or even PVC piping that you use for spouts and stuff. Much cheaper :D

No problems, on my old ek i had the pody infront of the left headlight with a bracket. Then had some ducted heating pipe from the resonator hole to the front bumper to flow air to it. Used a dc2r intake arm.

I believe if they're enclosed or covered by a lid or box, then it's legal. An exposed one isn't legal.
Remove your air intake resonator and you've made yourself a free CAI. You could potentially buy a $30 pod (~$22 when they have sales) from Repco, strap that to the remaining pipe and remove your panel filter. It's really ghetto but it's cheaper :P
If you don't want the cheap pod, and just want noise, drill holes into your airbox before air goes through the panel filter.

Yer I get pulled over every while so don't want anything illegal. Yet might remove the resonator for the sound

I don't believe removing the intake resonator will make it sound better (well, it didn't in mine, anyway).
Try airbox drill holes under the panel filter for noise. I haven't done it myself, but I've been told it makes it sound a lot nicer, and since it's at the bottom of the box, no one will be able to see the drill holes.

yer did a bit of research on removing airbox resonator and you loose throttle response
Baby Face
21-05-2014, 02:53 AM
the loss in response will probably be as noticeable as the power gains.
