Hi All,

Well it's finally happened.
My much loved Blue 2003 CL9 was involved in a nice bang up.

No injuries, so all good there.

Just wanted some thoughts one what to do next.

Just looking at the damage, I am expecting repair to cost around the vicinity of $3-4k if it is indeed fixable. (well at-least hoping it doesn't cost more)

Its all frontal, airbag didn't go off.

Friend of mine suggested just sell it as scrap and get something else.

Thought about it but I'd end up with another CL9.

Dont have quotes yet so if anyone has got a good mate in the panel business in SYDNEY - would love to hear from you.

NOTE: No we were not insured and accident was (my) woman's fault.
Glad she didnt hit Audi or Mercedes.

Unless the repair cost is cheaper than predicted, I'd get something else.
No point putting down 4k for a 03 Euro when you can save for something new, even if it is a CL9 again.
I guess it depends on how many km's you have on it now too.

That's what I what do anyway.

Feel for you brother.

I would sell off the motor + bits and pieces. As it can be done easily and quiet fast.

Then scrap her.

Maybe attempt an insurance job?? Just sayin.

Man you could probably do it yourself with a little time and patience?

If you're a DIY-er some new panels maybe a few mounts and you could get it roadworthy.

Otherwise I can help start the part out by buying your lip off you :)

Do you have insurance?
Get the car fixed through them
Looks about 3-4k

Edit:
Whoa you do not have insurance?
Sorry to hear

Looks kinda serious to me. Im no expert, but it may not be worth repairing it; depending on how much sentimental value it has to you.

If you ever consider it, I'll buy that front lip off you (and the rest of the body kit if you have it)

I'd part it out if I were you (not because I want your parts or anything :P)

shouldnt cost too much if you know where to look

I had a similar crash in another car, except mine had a broken headlight too. Bumper didn't look too bad, thought it was repairable for sure but some railing was damaged under the bumper and the body shop wanted $12k to fix it so assessor just wrote it off for $20k.

As I CU2 has noted, there does seem to be some front substructure damage apart from the bumper and bonnet. An insurance Co would probably class this as a repairable write off. I've seen less damaged cars get that classification. Show the pics to a few repairers (including that inner body damage) and get some quotes/estimates. If you feel repairs are too expensive, put it up for sale as is. Wrecking it yourself, unless you have tools, engine lifting gear and somewhere to store the wreck for a long time (it could be a long drawn out process) and then the problem of final disposal of what's left, isn't worth the time or effort.

quick update.

Got some folks looking at fixing the car, they estimate upto 3k but not sure yet.
I have to bite the bullet and do it for the short term if it does indeed come to 3k ish.

On the other side.
We spoke to the lady we hit in the Subaru and she says that the insurance co is paying her out for 8k.

My partner just got the a call from the Insurance Co. asking for 8800k as they have 'repaired' the Subaru.

I have no idea whats going on here.

Going to have a chat with the Insurance company on how they got to 8800K

Any advice appreciated - we are not insured (I know tough lesson learnt)

Tell her insurance company that she is lying or they are about her getting paid out
You will probably have to pay all that money back
Sorry to hear

Sorry to hear mate that really stinks! If this helps i once had a woman send me a letter threatening legal action demanding money even though i was insured..
turns out she was a fruitcake and desisted when i offered to show the letter to my insurance company.

Good luck with the repairs

I think there's a few topics like this on Whirlpool forums: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/133?g=263

You can post your situation up too but not sure how helpful they are...

Sorry to hear mate, hope it all works out. Unfortunately you'll probably have to pay the $8k repair bill plus deal with your own repairs at your cost.

You'll get around $8k for your car if you sell it repaired and it might be less of a headache for you rather than trying to sell the car parts.

In terms of insurance, the minimum you should have is 3rd party even if your car is worth nothing. Imagine if you hit a $300k Ferrari instead.

There may be a policy excess in addition to the repair/write-off payout amount that they are asking you to pay.

Why did they repair it and pay off the lady if it was still driveable?
