Hi Guys,

Need some help to get my power window up quicker, it goes down like normal but when going up it goes really slow. I have tried some silicon spray on the edges but it didnt work, any other ways to fix this?

I really want to get it smooth before I burn the motor out.

Thanks!

I've got the same problem, but only on occassions. Does yours do it all the time or just every now and then??? What kind of car is it?

My car did this when the battery wasnt charging properly, so make sure your cars got enuff juice to do it!

ps by juice i mean charge in the battery and a proply working alternator..

what if its only one side??

then id say "juice" isnt your problem. Just take the interior panels off and take a look, and lube it proply. If its an older car it may be a screwed motor, aas its harder to put the window up...

both front windows in my car were like that, when it rained they actually got stuck and i had to pull them up by hand along with the motor.

I got some silicone spray and sprayed it around all the rubber edges of the window frame that the windows slide in, i had to do this a couple of times and to be honest i made a mess but after putting the windows down and back up about 5 times they worked like new. this was months ago and they are still great.

Yeh it might just be silicone spray but I will definately beg my boyfriend to get my hands on his products ( :D ) and bring it for you Friday!!! For sure.......

But like mentioned, it takes a few times up and down to get it going, and then it's fine!!!! It fixed it after my car accident, although coming off the rails and forcing the window up and down scratched my tint. GODAMIT!

it could be the rubber in the rail inside your door scrunching up... I found that was the case with mine.. the rubber had torn and was scrunching up slowing the window.

hey guys my drivers side window has just come a little off center when i wind it up
it's power windows
what would cause this?

jes87s
08-04-2005, 01:27 PM
Yay I can answer this! LOL.

After I was hit up the rear end (keep mind out of gutter boys!) becuase my window was down on impact it shifted. Mechanics told me needed new motor as it only went half way down then kinda fell and shifted out of place. When my boyfriend took the door trim off, all it was was the window had come off the rails, he took the window out and realigned it and it works perfectly again!! :) Just more proof, never listen to a mechanic.

So answer to your question, it's probably come off it's rail or is shifted slightly on rubber or something else, take the door trim off and bob's ya uncle!!

thanks jes87s
just took the door trim off and it had come off the rails because the opposite side wasnt letting the window slide up very well
ive lubricated the oppostite side and put it on the rail and its working perfect
now to put the door trim back on is proving a little difficult hahaha

Hmm, mine's a different prob. Driver's side window in my EG if fine going down. But when it's at the bottom, you tell it to go up and it chugs a big, struggles, lurches, then gets half way and it's as smooth as a knife through liquid butter all the way to the top.

Use silicon spray [i use the nulon 1] i sprayed both sides of the window and it was fairly good afterwards. but for you to do it properly i think u gotta take off the panel n lube up the whole mofo.

Silicone spray... Spray it around the whole window and wind it up once or twice, respray and wind it up and down again, then it will be fine. Worked for me anyway and mine was buggered (just like the rest of my car - SHUTUP CHI!) :D

I had this problem, my drivers side was even getting stuck sometimes...

A friend of mine put silicone spray in the rubber tracks or whatever they called, now problem fixed! simple and easy!

for best results do what someone suggested afew post befor, take the panel off and spray the down/up tracks with the spray..

TIP: also just spray the verticle rubbers/tracks, if you spray the horizontal rubbers accroos the bottom of the window, wheny ou wind the window up you will get the silicone spray all over the glass...

Silicon Spray
Guys dont use Silicon Spray - I tried it (expensive stuff) and the windows were great for couple of weeks, then they got really really bad, much worse than how it was originally. The problem is that gunk and dirt get into the silicon and get stuck in it.
It took me months to get rid of the silicon crap using detergent.

WD40
WD40 is too thin and wont last long. It can also affect the window tinting.

Carbon/Graphite Powder
This is the best stuff to use. Dust does not get caught in it.
It works instantly and lasts for weeks - depending on how worn down the window rails and rubber are. If the windows start to go slow again, just put some more in. I keep a bottle in my glove compartment. If it rains heavily, it can wash away the carbon though. But at least it wont seize up like silicon grease. I think this is what the factory does to new cars anyway.

yeah me too..
my window is fairly slow, but the problem is when winding it up.. it goes straight right upto near the top then sort of goes out of place, and there is like a 1cm gap at the top of the window... i pulled the door trim off and messed with it.. but it had me buggered.. so ive left it.. its been like this since the window tinters tinted my windows. bastards!

When i had the trim off, i could wind it up and pull on the window to keep it going straight so it doesnt go off route. I tryed this a couple of times hoping it would pull it back into position with no success (and yes i know this cant be good for the motor!) lol.

Can anyone help with this?

I have troubles with the rubber seal at the top of mine. leaves a 1cm gap. I just have to push the rubber back in place every couple of days. Very annoying!

Yep that pic looks like how my left window state is in. Those Civics use a "soft" rubber frame and I guess easily deform due to sun/heat exposure. My left Window was broken into (when previous owner owned the car), which doesnt help :(

When I wind up the window, I have to flick it down a tad in order for the window to align properly and close that gap.

I was gonna change the rubbers, but Honda want something like $200 - for a piece of rubber? Rip offs...

Up the nose and away it goes...

Those who used silicon spray, dont you find that the windows seize up even worse after a few weeks/months due to dust and grime buildup? The silicon goes hard and rubbery after a while. Gave me so many headaches removing it...

I dont understand why u guys dont just use graphite powder

From Auto-One stores:
