Hey guys,

Recently I have gained some sounds from what i suspect is the gearbox. Firsty a short rattle when reving past say 4500rpm and just recently when accelerating/cruising with with no accel I get a metal on metal shimering sound. Any help? Does this apply to Win's DIY Gearbox article?

Many Thanks in advance

are you positive its the gear box
there is no grinding noises?
it is common in hondas to have a rattly exhaust
mine rattles through the rev range and has nothing to go with the gearbox

does it feel any different
get under the car and knock the exhaust (when cold) see if it rattles

if the exhaust rattles
sometimes it could be because of the ceramic stuff in the catalytic converter has broken away and is rattling or its a heat sheild rattling or the baffles in the second muffler have become unattatched, which rattles too, my car does this

Are you holding the gear stick when this happens? If I push my gear stick in slightly further than it naturally sits I get a slight grinding noise and the stick vibrates a bit more. Maybe yours is pushing itself in too far, I dunno know what causes this sound so I'm not sure.

might not be the gearbox - sounds more like a resonance issue - IE past a certain rpm / sound level a metal part vibrates at its peak level ....my exhaust system does the same at 2500rpm , due to broken heatshiel hanging down !

If that made sense , get under and check for and contact between ur header / b pipe / cat / cat back piping !

Some brands do not work as well as others. e.g. People have problems with redline oil on honda boxes.

if its some rattling noise you should get your exhaust system checked out.

if happened to me, and i took it back to where i got it installed, they minimised it but they say that some car engines make that sound. my friends lancer does the same.
