View Full Version : Headers and Catback

Hey guys,

I've heard some people say that Headers/Extractors don't really make a difference on the H22. Would this be so? Combined with a catback shouldn't see some more power?

Would I see power gains with a full xforce catback with twinloop and xforce headers?

Cheers

Well for instance

On my ATTS - it has a hyper medallion 3 2.5in cat back, my Si non VTEC has a magnaflow muffler only, stock piping

Si feels much more better than the ATTS, so I wouldn't say any power difference.

As well, me and Curtis had a drag race, both neck and neck to 100kph, me in the si, and his with his custom 2.25in

Mind you he had 3 cyl lol

Geeze! That's crazy. What brand to Curtis have? I am keen as on PLM headers now and than an xforce catback with twinloop.

the car was minty perfect, minus the 4th cylinder.. the compression was like 180, 180, 180, 150

never heard twinloop.

I had a BNIB PLM header for sale you know lol, sold it for 500

Just so you know, the PLM's require the subframe to be notched a bit so that can add to installation costs unless you're handy with it.

i'd say go custom with the exhaust too - 60mm pipe, stainless or mild (your choice) and obviously mandrel bent. Works out a bit cheaper than an xforce catback. Mine was 2.25 mild steel with muffler supplied (take a look at vibrant mufflers too ay), cost $350 in labour and materials

Yeah I'm not handy aye. yeah I'll have a look man. Still have a long time till I can hopefully get it done but just want to get my plans right.

I've hear a lot of people saying that the only extractors worth putting on are Bisimoto and that the factory ones are good enough and anything besides bisimoto will have a negative effect.

You really have to look at people's dyno figures and analyse... plm ones have bigger pipes so should net some gain somewhere- ever looked at your cast iron stock one?

The empty buckets make the most noise so too speak

Nope. Still have the head shield over them.

i read somewhere, with a set of cams and stage 1 springs, u can get some good power from the h22, along with revs up to 9k or so. not so expensive to do either

Some good power output for what's done but I don't think I am willing to spend a lot of money getting tunes and other parts like cams, valve springs, especially on my first car. Rather save for some smaller things and my next car.

:( So it's really not worth doing a full exhaust unless I'm willing to at least change the cams, valve springs etc?

just do your typical i/h/e and tune. dunno, might gain 20k atw with the right combination.

Stockish you look at 100-110kw at the wheels for a Prelude, that guy got 10-20kwatw on cams and e85 and tune, doubt even i/h/e+tune will get you more than 5-10kwatw

Alright should be something I can look forward too. Would Hondata S300 be good to use if I was to get a tune?

.....on byp dyno though lol. and it was a h23
started with about 105kw from memory.

worth is your own opinion. you're not going to get 'real power' without a tune anyway.

Buy a intake/exhaust and think of it as an investment for a nice sound rather than power.

Best advice i can give is to go for a ride in another car with an exhaust and no tune and see how you feel about it

I personally stopped after the exhaust.

i agree with this bunch of nuts,

if you want sounds then it will sound awesome with exhaust and header,

if you want power, ud be silly not to drive it up to sydney to get the s300 dealer to give it a tune for u

curtis265
28-05-2014, 03:22 PM
if you're after tuning, speak to an actual tuner and ask what they want to work with

Also to use a S300 you'll need to get the right ECU - i dont think the prelude one can take it iirc

Too make proper power with a H22 you will need to do a valve job, along with portwork to the cylinder head. The cylinder heads are quite restrictive from factory and in the long run, it's better to boost them than chase power n/a.

Neptune is a good ecu option over the hondata

Just about any ECU out there is better than Hondata when tuning. Haltech & KTuner are best for K series. Older OBD1 cars have other options available

The new hondata S300 V3 supports a ethanol content sensor with timing and fuel map compensation, I wonder if chrome supports that hmmmm

Is it because you can't tune hondata that you recommend others?
