Stage victory for Chris Atkinson!
New Zealand : SS 3 - 11.24 km


We always expect the possibility of having a Subaru at the top of the time sheets but it is usually the Impreza of Petter Solberg. A Subaru finished in first place in this stage but this time it wasn't Solberg's car!

Young Australian Chris Atkinson achieved a superb performance by completing the 11.24 km distance in 6'40 flat, 1"2 faster than Sebastien Loeb in second place. Petter Solberg took the third best time, just 1"8 slower than his teammate.

Marcus Gronholm remains in the battle for the lead, the Finn only eight tenths behind Solberg in SS 3.

The fastest eight drivers in SS 3 are separated by less than five seconds. Markko Martin matched the pace of his teammate for a tie in fourth position. Gigi Galli continues to dominate his teammate Harri Rovanpera. The Italian is sixth, followed by Francois Duval in seventh and Janne Tuohino in eighth.

Petter Solberg is still leading the race, just 1"1 ahead of Sebastien Loeb in second position. Marcus Gronholm is third, 4"2 behind the Subaru driver.

ATKO!!!!! Unreal. He won SS8 too! He now lies 5th overall... ahead of Markko Martin.

He is benefitting from the others sweeping the road. He's 12th on the road, so he gets the best of the conditions. But you have to remember this is his third ever event in a WRCar, first on loose gravel and his first crack at Rally NZ in the WRCar. So comparing to Mikko Hirvonen... well there's no comparisson.

If anyone doubted Atko was set for big things... he's proving himself now. And I'm loving it.

i think the experience on these stages is letting him show his true speed, he's done them all before so not having to learn them from scratch!

As Vivski said he has won another stage.
Go Chris.

Only day 1 for now, but if he keeps this up he SHOULD (hoping) be on the podium!

Not sure how it all panned out (I will see this week on Fox) but well done to Leob, he is showing how good he really is and Petter for getting 3rd after he was down after day 1.

Chris, get a podium son!

Showing on TV or Cable? I watch last week one but only showing ARC.

Fox Sports (cable) always has WRC a week earlier then normal TV.
Also, atfer every round/day foxtel show the highlights about midnight.

Some of the footage is a must see. I'm lucky enough to have Foxtel (rallying's about the only thing Foxtel's good for), and I watched the highlights the other day.
There's incerdible footage of Petter going flat out through this valley, flicking it from apex to apex on the narrow cambered gravel roads at breakneck speed.
