Hey guys, this is for the guys who actually know what they are talking about, and can provide me with the correct information and some facts/findings/research to back their answers/comments up...

In regards to pod air filters, does bigger mean better? I have a choice of running a few pod filters for a cold air induction type setup, now does a small filter mean it will suck it less air while a bigger filter has more area to suck in more air? My induction pipe is now a 2.5inch setup for my b16a... Do you guys suggest a larger air filter or smaller filter...

I know its a simple question but what would be the logical side of it? I plan on doing my own research as in putting both on and all that, but what do you guys recommend?

Thanks!

Size does not make a difference. Limiting factors are your induction pipe and throttle body. A filter is just a filter.

What you should look for is the flow properties of the filter material.

I've found that it doesn't matter about the size of the pod. I've found in my case that it matters which brand pod you go for. And also something about gettin a pod that isnt open at the mouth, like covered all around except for the inlet. Sorry dont know how to explain it, hope you know what i mean.

something to think about....more surface area of a filter = more filtered air thru = less restriction/lower air pressure - well , thats a educated barble at 10am on a saturday morning lol.

Seriously steve , off the top of my head , a better setup would be a larger intake pipe thru to a medium sized airfilter ( panel might be better ) and thus to a smaller inlet ( as in , directly infront of the throttle body) - this would act like a venturi and probably aid in combustion and only get better the faster you go. ( think of a stretched cone , with a filter in the middle of it )

thats just an opinion based on what ive learnt ! Best of luck !

i was wanting to make a new airbox with a panel filter a while back. i've since binned the idea due to a lack of ability with power tools and welding equipment.

i think a velocity stack behind an enclosed pod or panel would be a goer.... it's dead simple, but you need to muck around to make it. i might have a hack at using fibre glass.

perhaps another issue is location in the engine bay itself - i have drawn up many many sketches for a velocity stack design - but from what i coudl see most would need to cut a section out of the bonnet to use properly.

Ive also mucked about with resonator style designs for low to mid end poke - a large low pressure pulse area inside basically. ( think of a simple large offset muffler used for the CAI)

its all on the drawing board i guess lol.
