I have just bought a DC2R and it came with one black key and one red key.

I'm wanting to have a spare key. I understand that I will need one with a transponder for the immobiliser and get the key cut and programmed by a locksmith. Is this the correct key I need to buy?

I woudln't bother with that key. I tried somethign similar with a T5 chipped key but it didn't work. The guy couldn't code it.

Luckily he was nice enough to only charge me for the cutting ($20) and not the coding attempt. That's the risk you take.

Locksmith I used charged 120 for two transponder keys and a spare non transponder.
The only issue at the time was that he had run out of the honda keys. He may have some back in stock now though. Where are you located??

Close toHurstville in Sydney. I got quoted $140 from preddys in Miranda. I did more research and ppl on this forum recommended Perfect locksmith in the Cab but they are no longer there.

Where is your locksmith?

I'm just up in Brisbane. Sorry mate.
But on that price, it's probably still better than honda (250 and have to change out the old system)

Since you have 1 red key and 1 black key a Honda dealer can supply and program in a new OEM key.

I could also sell you a key but you will have to post me a few things to perform the programming etc..

are you sure the key had a chip in it?

the other day, i had one muppet come in wanting key cut (he supply blank), and i laughed when i pryed open to find out no chip was inside.

if you free, i can hook it up to my reader and see if you have the right chip for the car.

If you have the red key, I'd suggest finding out from honda how much a new key would cost. Atleast then it should be 100%

blank is like $80ish. cutting another $30-50 depending on where you go, and method of cutting. programming is about $100+. do not expect much (if any) change from $250

I brought this one " http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HONDA-TRANSPONDER-CHIP-T5-KEY-FOR-ACCORD-CIVIC-CRV-PRELUDE-INTEGRA-CRX-S2000-/161248676212?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item258b2b8974 "
Mr Minit cut it and chipped it for $50. Took them like 2 minutes and works great!
