Hey,

It is possible, I did it on my 99 CXi hatch. I didn't find much in the way of accurate information from the wiring diagrams either, I had to figure it out from trial and error.

In the end I solved it with ?2-3 automotive relays (5 pin I think, like the ones you use wiring up spotlights) plus the aftermarket keyless control unit all packed into the drivers door. My 99 CXi basically came fitted with central locking (but not remote) from the factory I figured out. Whatever you did to the drivers door, it would mimic to the passenger door (but not the other way around I don't think). Regardless, both doors had solenoids on the locks.

From memory there were 2 wires (or three, one might have been a ground) going to the driver's door lock solenoid. I might be wrong on this but I think to open the lock, you had to use a relay to disconnect one wire (break the circuit), and then ground the other one. Then to close it you basically did the reverse of that for the other wire. It wasn't pretty but it worked a treat. I basically figured this out by sitting down with a multimeter, cutting a few wires, and experimenting on how the three wires to the lock solenoid worked, and then worked out how to use a few automotive relays to manipulate them given the lock/unlock signals that come from the ebay keyless entry box.

There were other ways around it, but the forum posts from overseas didn't seem to match up to the wiring etc that was in my 99 hatch. The four door models might be different even still.

Hope this gives you some direction in any case, good luck.

Cheers,
Dave.

There are hundreds of videos on YouTube, thousands of forum threads found on Google. If you dont know how to wire relays it only takes a google search to find out.
Not trying to be a jerk, just saying the info is readily available

From the pictures it looks like I used 4 pin relays there. Again, Google is your friend when trying to learn about this stuff ...

There's a ton of these cheap you can buy off eBay.

After searching all over the net I finally found this thread which seems to be the only reference to the Aust Sold EK1 Civic and installing remote entry, thank you dave_biscuits  for the pictures, when I saw them I had to look twice but yes its the same wiring as my 98 cxi Civic.
I have been going back to the net for research and to learn more about relays and remote entry systems as the one I brought is a TK103 and I fitted mainly for the GPS was hoping it would do the entry as well but I figure I might as well just buy another brain and mount it in the door as you have done.
Again thank you and if there is any more light yourselves or others could throw on this it would be great there must be heaps of Civic owners that would want to have keyless entry and don't.
Would love to hear from any one with other ways of doing this.
I also found this site for people like me who need to learn more about auto electrics it goes in to great detail it is mainly about audio
http://www.bcae1.com/ anyone know of any sites that offer other auto electrics info like this in an educational and generic sense please let me know.

Hi Dave_Biscuits I tried to do it your way thought I had found the answer on 12volt .com about how to wire the relays and NOPE.
But I did make a DIY video on how to do it with an aftermarket kit.

Well, it is done I ended up with Keyless remote entry.

Glad to hear you got it working. This is a good project for anyone to do who wants to learn really basic electronics skills.

Now that you know how relays work, you can have a go at upgrading your headlight loom ;)

Do you have links of all the parts you purchased from jaycar for this to work?

I actually purchased the central locking kit that came with the remotes and brain, actuators and bracing bars, connectors everything in the one box. Added to that i got some electrical tape, quick connectors and some spare 12v wire (which I did Not need).

Cheers Matt - did you watch the video I made?

:Dthis is the kit & link:D

Dave i could not get your way of doing it to work try as I might an in the end I wish I just brought the aftermarket kit and been done with it. It was easy as in the end. I am sure your way works but I had to move on.
HOWEVER I now know way more about auto electrics and have 2 great free sites full of info on 12v so it is all good in the end.

Cheers
Matt

Well, it is done I ended up with Keyless remote entry.

I followed this video and wired the 12v constant (white with green strip) to the red wire.

However, upon further inspection the white and green strip is actually a negative wire. And I think it has influences on the way the lock and unlock works.

My unlock button - locks the car
My lock button - unlocks the car

Is this correct? or is my ECU chip faulty?
