View Full Version : So I did something stupid... metal dust on cams...
So I was grinding something made from brass about 2 meters away from the engine bay, stupidly still had the valve cover off the engine. Noticed when I went to put it back on that some of the brass 'dust' had blown over the engine. Solutions I've found so far have been:
-Do nothing now, but change the oil and filter a few times in the near future.
-Clean up what I can and run new oil over it and through the head and drain the pan. Do this a few times.
-Completely disassemble the engine and clean everything, but still assume that I'm f*cked in the long run .(hope I don't have to go through this).
FYI, I have left it as it stands, have not started the engine or touched it since, save to place the valve cover back on it without bolting it up.
Would love to hear from anyone with personal experience with this. And yes, I know it was stupid, I know it's not good and I know I should have never done it in the first place :)
Edit: Typos

It's not great but as you say, just swap out the oil and filter a couple of times in quick succession and you should be fine.

Should I remove it first? Cause I was kinda hoping to avoid that if possible..

I'm thinking of just flushing it a few times. You can see the tiny specks on the nut how fine it is.

thats nothing man, waste of time taking head off.
Thanks man. I had already cleaned around it in that pic, but just cleaned the nuts too. I will just give it a rinse through. I'm a paranoid fool at the best of times, so I'm happy to be reassured :)

If you're paranoid to hat extent you should of had a rag/cover over the exposed head :P
Paranoid and stupid. And I totally appreciate the extremely constructive advice =D

Don't worry, just drive it and change the oil. Looks quite light.
FYI: Used the oil flush and it all came out along with other junk. Engine still alive... :)
