View Full Version : DC5 6Speed Gear Shift Clicking

I started to get a clicking sound coming from the gear shift mechanism when shifting into 1st, 3rd, 5th.

Removed the centre console to take a closer look at the gear shift mechanism, and found that there was a half disintegrated thin rubber bushing between the gear shift mechanism, and where it connects to the gear shift cable.

Once the bushing is gone you've got metal to metal contact .....click..click...when changing gears. Not terrible, but annoying.

This must be a pretty common thing with 10 year old 6 speed Integras.
Anyone else come across this ?

I fixed it with a home-made rubber bushing for the moment. But plan to ask Honda if the proper replacement is available (without having to buy a new gear shift assembly).

I stock the MTec Industries kit that makes the k series shifter assembly much more robust.

Thanks, I will take a look at that. Do you have a link or more info ?

Went into Honda this afternoon, and after looking through their parts catalogue drawings, it looks like the rubber bushing is not a separate part you can buy and replace. It seems to be built into the gear shift cable.
The upper gear shift cable attachment ring is lined with this red rubber bushing (which disintegrates over time). The lower shift cable is lined with a white plastic (still OK for the moment).

Honda has no replacement part to fix the rubber bushing when it dissintegrates, unless you want to replace the whole shift cable.
So an aftermarket kit or DIY solution is the only way to go.

Been considering the "Sport Spring Shift Kit". But I've to attend to few other needs 1st.

Sorry about the confusion,I was asking or pics of the red bushing that is broken. I have the race version of the springs and its awesome.
