Hi Guys

Im new to this forum, and wanted to say hi.
I have just purchased a 93 Honda Civic as a project car for the school I work at, as I run an automotive program there. We will hopefully soon begin to deliver 'cert 3 in Motorsport' with the Honda at the center of our program.

Just wanted to ask some advice as to wether the Honda will be a good fit to develop as a track car.

Hi, welcome to OH :)

Id say due to the vehicles popularity, ease to work on, and overall weight you have made a good choice. Also the ability to interchange a lot of parts with the DC2 chassis is very advantageous as the a/m scene for them is quite large. Overall a lot of options :)

Good luck with the build and being able to offer cert 3.

Depends on the budget.

It's not a quick car, but its a solid motor to get started on. Focus on the suspension mainly as honda's are well known for their handling properties.

lol, i just thought it was a odd statement given the amount of race series that feature sedans, or were you more specifically referring to EG's?

Thanks guys :)
Weve removed the bumpers and prepping for paint at the moment.

So the motor is a ZC as I understand, and not vtech ?
From what I gather they have similar power to a vtech ?

fist of all its spelt vtec lol

second of all it's a D16A8 not a ZC

And third no it does not have similar power to a DOHC vtec motor. It has the same power output is a SOHC D16Y1 (vtec)

Ah, ok, I was just going off what I read here (http://www.d-series.org/forums/dohc-zc/91053-dohc-zc-specs-mods-parts-list.html):

130-135 hp @ 6800 rpm ?
What does a vtec have ?

Ah, found it, so a vtec has around 170 hp.
So a vtec would be a better motor to rebuild and put in it ?
Does the vtec go in easy ?

Theres probably 50+ motors that honda produced with the vtec technology....

VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) is a system developed by Honda to improve the volumetric efficiency of a four-stroke internal combustion engine. The VTEC system uses two camshaft profiles and hydraulically selects between profiles. It was invented by Honda engineer Ikuo Kajitani, and was the first system of its kind. It is distinctly different from standard VVT (variable valve timing) which advances the valve timing only and does not change the camshaft profile or valve lift in any way.

read up on vtec pls
