a mate of mine is having trouble choosing between the 1997 civic coupe vtir and the 1997 prelude vtir.
whats the cons and pros of these? what would you guys prefer?

um... dude there is no 1997 civic coupe vtir... vtir coupe only came out 99-00

so maybe u talkin abt a 97 vti?
if thats the case.. lude vtir for damn sure

Get the lude but make sure its a manual. The difference between manual and auto is about 10kw AT wheels and about 1 second.

Also the lude will be faster than the civic stock for stock and has a nicer interior IMO.

get the civic coupe VTIR, i know alot of youz wouldnt agree but the civic, stock with cam timing done by mr robert.. can take on a stock lude anyday!.. and i done it with 2 passengers when the lude had none..! i only WON :wave: by half a car length tho at 120+km! so not much, but enough to say i gave him some!

if it is the EM1 coupe it is more stylish imo but performance wise there's no question

prelude has basically no sitting room in the back whereas coupe is relatively roomy compared to prelude/integras....dunno if that's a consideration too

for looks... depends if u intend to mod... if not the lude is better looking stock... if yes the civic can be made to look better

civic is also cheaper :p but harder to find.. plus dont forget its rare!.. u see everyone driving ludes nowadays...

mainly older females :p hehehe...

and........

Civic coupe would be better if your friend was planning on modding it, otherwise just stick to the Prelude.

But then again the prelude costs more, so why not just get a Civic and mod it up? ^______^

as an owner of both..
they're both good cars.
depends on what you're looking for..
one is low on fuel with a bit of poke.. and light
the other is luxury with a bit more poke. but heavy
if you want to mod, then the civic has tonnes more options!
if you want to leave your car stock but have good power, then get the prelude.

looks wise, the civic coupe is rarer and stock looks really nice.
the prelude is a bit more common but good examples are still hard to find.

up to you really....
the coupe is def cheaper but yeah...depends on what you want out of your car ;D

seriously i reckon the coupe because its really rare yo dont see many around and the aftermarket is big for them compared to preludes,basically what verone else has said but i still like ludes

was tossing up the same thing about 2months ago, sofly, found out the lude was gunna cost me $1000 MORE than a civic vtir to full comp insure + once civic has got the susp, wheels n lip treatment looks way hotter imo:D

Id say EM1 for sure.

If you thinking about looks, even though the lude looks nice too, the em1 kills it.

ALSO ludes are heaps common and heavy, while em1 is exactly the opposite!

get a black EM1 coupe ^_^.. nah i would go for a civic coupe as well. more so than a prelude. IMO the civic coupe looks shaawweeet...

I had the same dilemma......came so close to buying a prelude cheap but it had finance on it and the guy wanted to pay the bank for me.....rriiiiiiggghhhhtttt sure....

but waited a couple of more months and got an EM1, sure its slower, but from a distance you look at it and you will just admire how perfectly simple it is.

mm, both are very nice, very hard choice, interior of prelude is much nicer as well!
is the civic meant to be slower?? imo stock for stock their 1/4's are pretty much the same and depend on the driver, handling wise, not sure.

driveability, 2.2l would probably be alot better for everyday driving!

Go the lude! but then again im fairly biased :D

Main reasons would be:

more power
more torque
digital climate control
cruise control
more solid
leather (in some)
sunroof

i have seen some nice civics and i have seen some nice ludes so its up to you mate :thumbsup:

Go for Civic
it is more acceptable by ppl since lude stop produce anymore and not much mod for lude as well.
for long term, go for civic as u got heaps heaps of mod to play with as B engine is the best engine i ever tried.
also lude, imo, is a luxury car like euro and those luxury features are useless for us
moreover, civic vtir hold the value

you obviously havnt done much research cause there are HEAPS of parts for the lude especially in the US where they have done anything you can think of to them!

also you talk like the prelude being the last of the line is a bad thing i think the opposite dont need to worry about a newer version of my car coming out so i can always have the latest lude :D

i agree the lude is more of a luxury car and the cost of that is the extra weight of the car but the added power and torque in the H22A make up for it and a stock vtir lude will beat a stock vtir civic :thumbsup:

whereas civic looks 10 times more common coz theres coupe, hatch and sedan! so at the end of the day they all look the same to me
