Lubricants have a number of different standards and approvals. This is to ensure the oil designed for your engine type is the right one. It will also make it easier to compare products. Some lubricants meet a number of standards and have many approvals as they are of a high quality, but some lubricants will only meet one standard.

Each of them have they own acronym: API, ILSAC, ACEA, JASO, OEM. This educational video will guide you through the jungle of lubricant standards and provide a basic understanding!
