Just curious as to what is considered acceptable oil consumption. Recently checked my engine oil level prior to a holiday trip (700km) and it was between the high and low marks. Thought it should be good. Just checked it after returning home and was surprised to see it sitting just below the low marker. That cant be good as the trip included the Kings Highway that has lots of high speed twisty stuff with lots of potential for the oil pump to be starved of oil as you corner.

Anyway topped it back up to the full mark and was surprised that it took only a litre of oil.

So is 1 litre of oil consumption acceptable for nearly 5000km since oil last change? The car has done just over 150000km and I use Castrol Edge 5 W 30.

Maybe I should consider another grade oil due to the age/km on the engine.

That's not too bad.

I think its time you move up on oil grade.

10w should be fine, specially with summer around the corner. Unless you live in some mysterious place in Aus where its 10deg during summer, it be wise to do.
