So ive blown the headgasket on my dc2 vtir and my
Options are to replace the engine or do the headgasket, what are your guys opinions on it and what would be the better choice? Obviously the cheaper the better

As my car was over heating and spewing water out the back ive had no choice but to leave it at a local mechanics who says he will source for a new motor depending how the bottom end looks on the engine, could this day get any better?

Just got to bite the bullet like I did.

Your b18c2 must have 200,000 kms plus

Just buy the Head rebuild kit:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-HONDA-VRS-COMPLETE-HEAD-GASKET-KIT-B16A-B18C-CIVIC-EG-EK-INTEGRA-DC2-DC2R-/291260285001?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43d0774049&vxp=mtr

And you might as well do the bottom end:

I used both links and also did my Clutch while it was there.
I cant remember how much I spent for labour I was around 800-1300.

You may be able to find a used b18c2 engine/ Gearbox - 1000-2000
But why would you buy the same engine for? just because it said its has lower kms.

Just rebuild it for peace of mind knowing it wont die on you for atleast another few hundred thousand kms.

theres more to rebuilding engine than just replacing gaskets like bearings and part clearances.

well it overheated because ?
you will have to skim the head, while the head is off you'll probably do timing belt and water pump, if a workshop does it, there goes 1k just in labor, get another motor, will end up cheaper.

keep in mind if the head overheated pretty bad then it might be toast, you'l leave to check the hardness (easy steel ball test)
