My rear struts have been really bouncy and when the rear left brake hose burst i thought its time to make the car safe again.bought new flex hoses (localy made $60 each) and removed the struts-replaced brake hoses. In regards to the struts, they are re-buildable,remove coil spring-unscrew top main cap and all the internal tubes/oil (none left) can be removed for cleaning etc.I have bought new seals for both struts but need to know how much oil to put in the tubes.new replacement after market struts are $400 each and gas inserts are $150 each.in the genuine honda manual it states to replace if defective but these are re-buildable,i have done it before when i was 18 now cant remember.I want to keep this car original as i have another one to trick-up.
So bottom line is HOW MUCH OIL does each strut hold...Ken:)

I dont think you'll be bale to get the answer here. Maybe give a few places that rebuild struts a call.

I thought most struts dont have any air pockets and it's all just fluid?

Living up in Mildura,i have been to all our speed shops and hydrolic shops. All they do is shake their head,i even went to our Honda dealer.Motor bike forks only take a portion amount of oil compared to the internal volume of the tube.I wont give up and when i find the answer i will post the results...Ken

I have succeeded-put 265ml trans fluid in each strut, bled all air and re-fitted to car.Went for a test and all is good-like new. In regards to that link,I have tried to register so many times its not funny-Also i gather that this forum does not cater for my 1st gen honda civic-there seems to be no other forum for 1-2 gen hondas?...Ken
