Got a friend who's running a 94 vti accord, he couldn't be bothered getting a more expensive exhaust when his one holed so he just got the exhaust shop to change pipes from the cat back and bunged on a cheap muffler... he thinks it may be more restrictive than the stock system... can there be any problems/damage to the car if it is more restrictive? this is a bit beyond my scope of knowledge, any info appreciated.

His car is also producing a clacking sound at very low revs (<1500rpm), even when the accelerator is being pressed in idle.

The clacking sound could be the exhaust pipe hitting something under the car...

i had a listen to it and had a look under the car. it doesnt sound like the pipe hitting against something. it's a triflow i think, from looking at it...
