Definitely add one if you're going to be tracking the car (which you are) :)

otherwise....dont :)

Not worth the dosh on a every day driver ( and can hinder performance in certain situations ive been told - due to oil temp etc)

I found this:

http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18151&highlight=oil+cooler

But I think its already been sold.

I just did a search (forgot where I read it) and one option is the Greddy.

Anyway.....good reading here (http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=241052&highlight=oil+cooler)

Some coolers have a sandwitch plate that will only open up at a certain temprature :)

ala thermoswitch - good idea to get one if you get the cooler :)

US boys usually cover oil coolers in plastic or cardboard during normal driving or the colder months to cover the cooling fins and retain the normal operating oil tempreture.

I've just ordered an Trust oil cooler (10 row) for my DC5. HK$3500, it is made for DC2 but the guy said it is no problem for DC5, so you can just this one too. The kit comes with all the bits and of course it includes the thermoswitch sandwish plate. I track my car last Saturday, my oil temp went up to 138, I think it's a bit high.

Sure is :)

I've heard of a few DC2Rs overheating. They're not meant (in stock form) for a lot of laps around the track.

I posted this in another thread and have not had an answere so :Well Im looking to buy a cooler as well, but should I buy 19 Row Oil cooler or 13 row?? I found some on E bay and was wondering if there the right type of cooler??
Would I be better off getting a brand name cooler or are they all the same and just do the same job??

For Dc2 I don't think you need more than 10 rows, otherwise the car will be too cold ( specially for daily driving) unless the cooler comes with thermoswitch sandwish plate. I think all sandwish plate can fit the oil cooler hose as long as the thread of the plate fits the thread of the hoses. And when you buy some after market oil cooler which is no make for Dc2, make sure those hoses are long enough

But Ive also heard that if ur hoses are too long/thick that u will lose oil presure, how do u make sure all ur pressueres are right, also what brand coolers come with a thermoswitch and how much does a good cooler cost??
Also whats the difference between a sandwich cooler and the other?? ( not sure what its called) Also should you fit an Oil pressure gauge at the same time?

Trust makes an oil cooler for DC2, so I think the oil pressuere should be ok then. This kits come with the sandwish plate so you don't have to buy one. It is a good idea to fit an oil and temp gauage at the same time.

Yeah but what is the sandwich plate, like what does it do??

Jim80y

Sandwich plate attaches to engine block and oil flows through sandwich plate to lines to the cooler back through lines back to sandwich plate back to engine block

tegstar83
12-04-2005, 10:25 PM
ohh ok, but does the cooler have to be attached to the block?
How is this done to u drill holes or something??

Steer^Gimic

no mate. you seem to be pretty confused about the concept of an oil cooler.
the cooler itself can be mounted in the front, like a radiator. two lines coming from the cooler into the sandwich plate. the plate is like a spacer that you put in between the block and the oil filter when it comes to installing.

tegstar83

Oh. So the sandwich plate autually screws in to the spot where u normally put ur oil filter and then ur oil filter goes on the sandwich plate, is that right??

I have fitted several Oil coolers to eg,ek and dc2 the only problem that i have encounted is the Price!!!! but I figured it out!!!! there are no other problems associated with them, and they are a great thing to have, as not only do they cool the oil down but they can hold any where from 0.5-1 liters of extra oil!

Here's what you do: get an oil cooler from a fc Rx7 13b turbo, (long and skiny) which will run the lenth of the radiatior in a dc5 anyway, go to enzed and buy 2x 90 deg bends and 2 straight fittings, while you're there get of high tem oil lines, and last but no least a sandwhich plate from any good race shop, make sure you get the plate first so you can messure up the fitings, there you go! All up I priced one the other day and it came to 375!!! cheap as aposed to 768 when I did my first one, and the cooler was half the size!!!!!

hope this helps

Where, and how do you fit an oil temp guage? (the sensor bit under the bonnet I mean), not the guage it self.

drill into the sandwich plate or the oil pan

fit the sensor to the sump oil bolt which KHS makes it

Also does HKS make an ready to bolt in bolt with the temp sensor already in??

don't waste you time drill all those holes, just go and buy yourself a Trust sandwish plate, it will fit both the oil temp and pressure sensors. The shop in Springvale Rd and Whitehorse Road sells them.
