no looking fast is when you put the aluminium wing on the car

sounding fast is playing the BOV sounds on the big sound system

Has anyone spoken to you abou the rest of your head supporting 11k rpm's?

Springs?
Retainers?
Valves?

Havok
09-01-2004, 11:14 AM
11k ?? apart from the obvious springs, retainers, valves ull need oil pump gear, rods, rod bolts and then obvious shit like exhaust better intake manifold... just by putting killer cams in it doesnt mean ure gonna be making power to 11k.

if ure gonna just put the cams in and rev to 11k please let us know how many minutes your motor lasts..

Cheers

i was gonna say.....making your car rev to 11k is gonna cost you a tad more than just cams

Is there an end to taking the motor to 11k? Or are you just doin it to get bragging rights?

any thing i should be aware of??

Hi biss,

Good to hear you’re a bit of a nutter… I’m not going to take the piss out of you or anything…
In fact, I hope you pull it off…

My first word of advice is... Be careful what you wish for…

Second word of advice is… Talk to James @ Hondata...

Third would be, I hope you’ve an application in mind other than a road car…
As for anything you should be aware of…
If you want to make power @ 10,000rpm let alone 11,000rpm you’re going to need some serious head-work…
The cams are just a very small part of it…
Honestly, to get the whole shebang to hold together and make power at those revs is a lot more involved than simply dropping cams & valve springs in…
Firstly, the basics…
Your oil pump will fracture…
It’s only a sintered unit and the outer ring will fly to pieces…
Your options here are limited…
TODA or Pro Drive
Contact Denni @ Online for Pro Drive products…
Email: online@onlineperformance.com.au
Website: http://www.onlineperformance.com.au/
Or myself for the TODA item…
Either way… You’re nuts if you skip this one…
Below is a copy of the new text from my web site…

HEAVY DUTY OIL PUMP
The heart of the engine is the oil pump, so when modifications are carried out the oil pump should never be overlooked.
Improved oil circulation helps to prevent your modified engine from incurring expensive rebuilds. (Ø80mm or ø84mm)
The original equipment Honda B-series engine oil pump gear is a sintered unit and prone to fragmentation at high rpm.
The Toda Racing oil pump gear is machined from billet.
Toda Racing strongly recommend the use of this product in any engine to be used in a racing application or greater than 9000 rpm is to be used.

TECHNICAL NOTE
Some B-series engines (B16A, B16B, B18C) have 80mm oil pump gears and some have 84mm oil pump gears.
Some common sizes are as follows:
· B16A2 AUDM EK4 VtiR - 84mm oil pump gear
· B18C2 AUDM DC2 VtiR - 84mm oil pump gear
· B18C7 AUDM DC2 Type R - 80mm oil pump gear
If you are unsure as to which size fits your engine; you must remove your original oil pump gear and measure it.
If your engine is equipped with a 80mm oil pump gear, then only the TODA 80mm oil pump gear will fit.
Please determine the correct size of oil pump gear required prior to placing your order.

Here's 2 pics…
Both the TODA & Pro-Drive oil pump gears so you know what you're looking at...
http://www.toda-racing.co.jp/product/onemake/b16/b16-4.jpg
http://www.prodriveusa.com/popup/images/oil_pump_gear_432.jpg

Now, basically that’s just the tip of the iceberg…
Connecting rods…
Recommend “Crower” lightweight items if you’re on a budget…
If money is no object… Titanium rods…

The crankshaft will need a bit of attention…

Pistons… Another minefield… Here, cheap is really bad…
The piston speeds involved require a very good piston…
Further, if you want to make serious power…
Normal engine life expectancy aught not be expected…
Slipper pistons don’t fare well as daily drivers…
Tight tolerances are your friend, lose fit is your enemy…
+ The compression ratio is going to need to be up there…

Regarding head work…
You’re going to need a serious port job here to make power…
Be careful whom you chose to do the work…
Plus… If your budget allows you,
Toss the B16A head in the bin if that’s what you’ve got and fit the head from a B18C2… VtiR Integra…
The higher port angle will work to your advantage over 9000rpm
& Aid in your quest for compression…

Vtec killers aren’t going to be your salvation just on their own…
How they’re set up is critical…
Does your tuner know what to do? (Honestly?)
Valve springs… Are they up to the job?
Retainers… who’s do you chose?
As a side note,
Please be aware that not all Vtec killers camshafts are created equal...
Be carful not to turn your engine into an SR20...

Also remember what’s hanging off the outside of the engine will make of break it… Combination is everything…
Manifolds etc…
Further to that, your exhaust system is going to need to bigger than you expect…
Or simply a tune length tail pipe
Good luck shutting it up…

You’ll also need something special in the cam belt area…
Btw: I’m not talking just a Hi-power timing belt either…
Hint: F4

Last word of advice…
Please be warned…
Done incorrectly, all you’ll make is a very expensive hand grenade…
Done right & you’ll have a blast…

Rules of thumb…
Weight, inertia & a “she’ll be right mate” attitude is your enemy…
Balance, combination & attention to detail is everything…

Having done this before,
I can’t tell you it’s a silly thing to do, as I personally love it…
If you’re serious, I’d be more than happy to help you…
If you’re not… Well, best of luck anyway…
Cheers…

Adrian
