Hi guys,

I have an ed6 auto and I could possible facing head gasket problem, keep loosing water every now and then (1L every 3-4 weeks) plus last week, it overheated, thermostat valve stuck closed, could made more damage.

thermostat changed plus new coolant, car seem to run ok, started alright.

well, car has about 1 month rego left so, what should I do?

- fix the head gasket? I think gonna cost me more than $1500 to do everything including head serviced. not worth it? car only worth $1000 maybe

- keep driving it and keep top the water up till rego expires. then, return the plates and leave it on the street.

- selling it? No, I cant sell it with the problem and I can't lie

- engine conversions? because it carby and auto, going to hard to do efi engine conversion. plus I can't do it myself. also, I don't want to get another D15B4 (same engine) and swap it as it might have the same problem or more problems than mine

any suggestions or input welcome

cheers

Dont see why you cant sell it on, just tell the new owner about the issues with the motor.
Dont scrap it, ed's are too good to end up as scrap

well, car definitely has head gasket leaks or may be cracked head, got few tests done too

I can't really use this car due to overheating every now and then, starts ok, drives fine. Ii drives for like half hour and suddenly it's overheating.

I think it's pushing the combustion gas into cooling system and creating air lock, then, thermostat valve not opening.

Can I remove thermostat and keep driving till rego run out?

cheers

Removing the thermo probably won't help but you can try

Thermostat removed, took car out for run about 40 mins, not overheating anymore, ran ok, wasn't loosing any power

I believed it has cracked head, will keep an eye on water level
