Engine oil for honda jazz

Ok so im getting the car serviced soon. Im planning on buying my own oil and just letting them do the service.

Went down to super cheap auto today and played around with an ipad that had some program that finds oil for your car.

it came up with "penrite HPR 5 full synth - 5w-40" as the best for the car.

I just got the car and feel like getting whats best for it. Is there any other oils out there that can be recommended ?

Penrith is quite joocy, not a bad choice

Can't go wrong with Nulon, I reckon it's the true best on market atm, excellent value for money too

I use it in my K24 motor which cops full abuse and it has never let me down :)

Which jazz? Later model jazz um had either 0w20 or 5w20 as factory fill and I'm pretty sure the manual don't recommend anything thicker than 5w30

Technically honda had been using very thin engine oil as factory fill since 2002 or somthing... but it wasn't till approx 2008 that they really started to push it in Australia.

Edit: Penrite hpr5 5w40 is really marketedd towards 5w30 users (hence the extra 10 writing on the bottle).

You'd find almost all other oil guides recommend 5w30 not 5w40, Castrol/nulon/mobil all recommend 5w30 not 5w40, shell even recommends a helix ultra 0w20 for the audm GD Jazz, so if you are not getting Penrite hpr5 consider a 5w30 instead.

Hmm the honda dealer north of the river over here said 10w40 is factory
and I asked if I could put in 5w40. He said no
I said why not
Then he told me I could put in 0w20
But I can't put 5w40 in?
I laughed over the phone and said you can't be kidding me
Its crazy there no oil recommendation sheet in the owners manual

Its a balance between fuel economy and engine protection. Honda dealers sell FEO oil 10w30 (mineral) and FEO Ultra 5w30 (Full Syn), these are suited to the Australian climates. Castrol Edge 5w30 is also a good bang for buck full synthetic oil.

0w20 is generally used for cold climates. It will give optimal fuel economy but it might thin out too much in summer and increase engine wear

Theres also not much advantage using thicker 5w40 oil on a tiny jazz engine. You will get reduced fuel economy.

Reduced fuel economy does not bother me
what bothers me is using too thin oil such as a 0w20 which could contribute to premature engine wear (the notorious cu2 euros using oil)
I got 5w40 on sale and it is coming up to Summer
I'll wait til 5w30 is on sale and use that

Yes it is idiotic advice. Both are the same viscosity at operating temperatures. The first number is just how well it holds up in cold temperatures.

I believe they try push 0w20 for increased fuel economy. It makes Hondas look good on paper to appease the government/pollution agencies.

thought the benefits of a lower winter viscosity would help cold starts with the benefits of a 40 weight
Ca I ask freedoops what is your concern with 5w30?
